Frerichs really went for it and was rewarded with silver.

Super British record for Lizzie Bird.

Great effort by Bird what odds would you have got that she would have beaten Yavi.

It's taken long enough for British female steeplechasing to catch up with the rest of the world... Well done to Bird for the NR.

And Frerichs' decision to take it out as she did, guaranteed her the silver medal. Congrats to Chemutai with the gold, running so calmly and catching the American at the perfect time.

            Emma Coburn though.... oooof.

Coburn currently DQ for a lane infringement - not that it makes a huge difference TBH.

77.88m opener for Miller - very solid, and should secure him 6 throws.

Good day for Hertfordshire! Williams and Bird are former clubmates.

The USA has played it's part in Williams' move to the 400 and Bird's discovery of the steeplechase.

Very good opening heave from Nick Miller in the hammer final, with 77.88 to go into 2nd place. Nice way to open up the competition.

                    • Excellent from Bird - first ever British woman to make a steeplchase final and then lower her record in it.

That'll take some catching. And the Norwegian with a NR as well. Miller out of the medals for now, but another 6cm would put him third.

                      • Nowicki with a massive effort, 81.18 m!
