I don't think I've ever known a shot put qualification where the 2 pools are not run at the same time from different circles. I have no idea why they are doing that as they didn't do it for the women and or for the decathlon and heptathlon?

Yes, hope the 1500 m men do better than the 800m men.

And best of luck to Jemma and Keely in the w800 final!

If Mboma can get her start sorted I would love to see how fast she can go in the 200, when was the last time Namibia won an Olympic medal that wasn't won by Frankie Fredericks?

And the answer is that not only is Frankie the only Namibian medallist, but that all four of his medals were silvers.

OK, fingers crossed for my "out there" bronze medal pick in the Women's Jav, Latvia's Anete Kocina.

She's been ultra-consistent this season throwing between 62.44 & 63.70 in all 5 of her comps this season, distances that most of the field have struggled to hit with any regularity this year. This makes me believe (hope?!) that she's got a really big throw in her. 65 or 66-low might do for the bronze medal? Just get through tonight (Group A) and save that throw for the final!

El Bakkali doubling in the 1500 (3:31.95 PB) - he's in Heat 3.

3:36.29 should be OK to go through but if both the other heats have a decent early pace Kerr may be in trouble. Seems to have been a mix of a little mental and physical sluggishness in the last 40m or so there.

62 first lap in heat 2 is good for Kerr.

Commentators bigging up Josh Kerr as a possible medal winner . Has to make the final first! A well done is always better than a well said!

Lewandowski advanced? Didn't look like much, but we'll see.
