45.94 is perhaps the greatest world record there is out there right now. The only performance I can think of in the same measure was Johnathan Edwards' marginally over the limit 18.43 at the European Cup in 1995, or Bob Beamon obliterating the previous long jump record in the 1968 Olympics. Maybe Bolt's 19.19 in the 200 m?Last edited by sportsfan; 03-08-21, 04:37.Comment

I hope the general public understand what just happened. Bolt-esque. For me, even more shocking than Bolt. This is what you get when world class sprinters perfect stride patterns and hurdling technique - Those men have changed the event forever. Sub 45 flat speed will now be seen as an essential if you want to begin to challenge for a medal over hurdles.👍 1Comment

When I saw 45.94 flash up on the screen, I honestly thought there had been a screw up by the timing equipment and I was expecting it to re-adjust to something like 46.3/46.4.... But it never reset... He HAD just run 45.94.
That time from Warholm would rank him SEVENTH in Britain over the 400 m flat... over the hurdles!!!!Comment

I thought Benjamin’s interview was quite disrespectful. He was disappointed and said he messed up the race. He didn’t mess up, he did an amazing performance but just isn’t as good as Warholm. He’s still the 2nd best hurdler in history. It would have been nice to have seen him be a bit more humble and pay tribute to Warholm for a truly historic performance. Unfortunately he came across as a typical arrogant American.

. Maybe talk about our male athletes next year will turn down the hype.👍 2Comment

Fabrice Zango, the world #2 this year in triple jump and holder of the world indoor record, is in serious danger of not making it through the qualifying competition this morning. He's had all three jumps and his best jump is only a 16.83 effort in round two. He's 10th overall and with several jumpers left to go, one of the favourites for gold along with Picardo, could go out.
Britain's Ben Williams *is* out though, only managing a best of 16.30, his only valid effort.Comment

Let's hope he runs smart. It's not the Diamond League. !!

not known for my predictions - as the contest will attest - and it gives me no pleasure what-so-ever but I did say Gemili was one hamstring away from disappointment (I didn't watch race live, haven't seen race recorded, I am relying almost entirely on this forum for athletic's updates, and don't know what the injury was, but the principle holds) and I said in the build-up it was embarrasing that Warholm could almost run faster over hurdles than our flat 400 guys, ufff, scary to be almost true.

They might as well finish the athletics program now - nothing can live up to that 400h. Shades of the 800 in London for depth.
Jaw dropping and one of those moments when athletics raises the soul.
How much faster might that have been in the evening with a full crowd roaring them on?👍 1Comment
