For the first time in my time on the planet Kenya have not won the 'chase at a Games they have attended.
Yep. I was born in 1979 and all I've seen at the Olympics in steeplechase have been Kenyan winners. Incredible performance from El Bakkali.... Will the Kenyan selectors be feeling a bit rueful with some of the omissions they made to their steeplechase team at their Trials?
Played into Hassans hands with her basic speed
Tsegay did not have guts to run like she was doing earlier on this year
That's why the 1500m will be the Kenyan OG champ from Rio and Hassan again for me. I sadly doubt a medal for LM.
With due respect to Gidey in the 10000, I do think that Kipyegon in the 1500 will be Hassan's biggest human obstacle to a treble. There is the other obstacle of a punishing schedule of racing, warming-up and down etc.
Kind of as expected. Great run for Nadia Battocletti in 7th, 14:46.29 PB (still just 21).
Even younger, Ririka Hironaka (20) has taken down Kayoko Fukushi's Japanese NR of 14:53.22 with 14:52.84.
19 months ago Kayoko Fukushi owned 4 National Records. Now she owns none, having lost them to Tanaka (3000), Hironaka & Niiya (10,000 & Half Marathon) !
Sandi Morris out best of 4.40, injured I think, but unlikely to make the final in any case
EDIT, there's 15 with 4.55 already, so no she won't even if she could
