Don’t disagree, but she’s not and a big part of the sport has always been getting to the start line fit. We’ll probably never know the root cause of her injury, but maybe a possibility that she pushed herself slightly harder in training than she could cope with?

It’s a massive shame she’s not in this, but injuries are a part and parcel of sporting life.

I’ve not seen the semis but looks like Dobbin turned in a regulation performance. Shame to see Schippers so far off the pace.
Heh.... Yes, injuries are part and parcel of athletics. But the reason I'm getting exercised about Dina is I've had to read a load of guff directed at her chances to medal by the fans of other contenders, on Twitter and YouTube, for most of this year. And they only intensified after the super-fast times posted by the American contingent during the US Trials. But now seeing what's currently being produced by these runners in the 200 m, by athletes who were going to "smoke" Dina easily in Tokyo (according to those fans), and knowing that Asher-Smith was in the form of her life coming into this year and was showing it in the races before the UK Trials, it's hugely frustrating that she's not able to show what she is truly capable of in these Olympics.

*Sigh* Oh well, time for her to focus on the Commonwealth (or European Champs) and the Worlds next year.

Dobbin did well.... now she should be moving herself off to the 400 m in future.

The age of Schippers, I fear, is now over. Those back injuries have hampered her so much since pretty much 2018.

Wow, 43.88 for James and 43.93 South American record for Zambrano!

Dutch NR for Bonevacia in third, 44.62.

Lol, I was wondering if I'd just completely missed it. 5 under 45 is going some

I'm feeling very flat about it all now. Need Jessie Turner to pull a 2 second PB out

The return of Kirani James! 43.88! The fastest time he's run since the 2016 Olympic 400 m final I think!

Some strange seeding in these 400 semis - Heat 2 looks quite soft whereas Heat 3 is loaded.

It's all down to the results of the first round. If a number of the big guns don't win their heats there is always a big danger of this happening.

Games might be about to get better for the US - Allman has landed a 68.98 to go top of the discus so far

That was a great throw. Discus is an event where the Americans often fail to perform at the big champs but that will take a lot of beating.

                    And it’s raining. Job done!

She is very athletic and a million miles from the old stereotype of a female thrower

                • Standard of 400m is red hot!

                  • Going to be a great 400 final. Shame for WVN though

                    • Looks like a great battle between Gardiner and James in the 400 to me.

                      • Starting to rain.... And Holly Bradshaw has yet to enter the pole vault qualifying.... If I was her, I'd get a valid jump in now, and be done with it

Bit worrying; she tends to flag in poor weather.

                      • It is a raining here in Tokyo!

                        Tony Hancock reference!
