Beth Dobbin through to the semi final, while ETH did what Jackson didn't do.... run easily, but being aware of those around her.

Beth did well, with the Dina pull out and having eth alongside her she could’ve got spooked and didn’t

Not just GB athletes that mess up , eh ? Jackson really shot herself in the foot there.

These 200 first round qualifications for the semis are so soft by comparison with some of the other events ! Half the heats seem to be just five runners....

Dobbin through safely. Thompson-Herah (understandably) doesn't over-exert herself.

This men's long jump morning final has been a mess.

Morning finals work well in swimming, not so sure about with events like long jump....

Amazingly, it is quite possible that someone could finish top 8 without an 8m jump in qualifying or final.

Starting to see *some* improved jumps in round 5... But overall, this has been a pretty poor spectacle.

Taylor Campbell will be disappointed with his efforts in hammer qualification, only managing a solitary valid throw of 71.34 m, to finish 14th in group B. Nearly 7 whole meters down on the PB he set in June.

      Poor.

Yes, it's his first senior vest for GB... but that wasn't what he was looking for surely. Hopefully a learning exercise that.

Your memory must be shorter than mine then. GB generally rates quite well on the placing table. No country can be strong in all or even the majority of events...and while I agree this time around the results have been a bit down so far I'd wait to see how the rest of the competition goes before pressing the panic button. Some of those events are ones in which GB has never been noted : others have recently retired stars who are yet to be replaced. - or a very likely medallist injured at the wrong time.

Wow ! Think Montler would have had that but for 1 cm into the plasticine ... Like to have seen the measurement . Last round has heated up...

Tentoglu does it! 8.41! Goes ahead on countback... and is Echivarria fit enough to jump again?

Yep, Echivarria was indeed too hurt to continue! He started his run up, but had to abort halfway through.

            Echevarria tried and failed.

Just would be nice to see us at least have people in a few more field event qualifying pools that's all I'm saying. Remember those hazy days of the 90s when we had Thomas,Baulch,Richardson in 400m.

Yes indeed ! The 400 decline is my main disappointment at present. Hopefully cyclical.

As for the field I agree a lot of room for improvement especially in the throws. But it gets a bit better : Miller in Hammer final , two women in the LJ , Coppell in the PV - and hopefully Bradshaw will perform in the women's version later...

Not Puerto Rico's first Olympic gold medal... you're forgetting the women's singles gold they won in the tennis tournament in Rio 2016, Mr Cotter! Great run from Camacho-Quinn.

First in athletics would be correct. She may have run very fast indeed if she hadn't clipped the 9th and had to adjust.

Great last jump from Tentoglou ! He couldn't believe he'd actually won even some time after : suppose he didn't think his second best jump was all that ...

The Cubans were very gracious in defeat , I thought.

Camacho-Quinn did it in style 👍

Looking at the other sports- rowing has had one of their worst ever performances while swimming has had its best. Rowing needs a big development and rebuild. I cant wait to see the velo drome in action! Hockey rugby and football have not done well either - at least the 7's got to the semi finals

Women’s 200 final 8 is set before the semis:
SAFP, Thompson, Miller-uibo, Prandini, Gabby Thomas, Talou, Mboma, and Kambundji. Only change barring injury is Battle in place of the Swiss

1500 quals: Laura through OK, Katie just with a PB 4.02.77. Revee ran really well to get a PB 4.06.23, and was so close to a FL spot. Well done.

Faith K and Hassan the clear medal faves, but will that run have taken a bit out of Hasan for tonight's 5000? (Was it a Kenyan who took her down?)

200 heats: sad not see Dina. but this is looking like an intriguing competition. Masilingi and Mboma reminded me of Semenya in the way they ran, and Mboma in particular looks like a clear medal contender the way she ran down WL Thomas. Technically very raw, but ...

                Shericka Jackson very lackadaisical.

Great coverage of the LJ final, but some uncomfortable watching with Gayle barely able to walk let alone jump, and the silver ad bronze medallists both unable to take a last jump. Fantastic clutch jump from Tentoglou to win.

Keni Harison looked happy to win her first Olympic medal behind Camacho-Quinn.

I think the answer is that it was based on evidence - they had the evidence between 4 and 1500. They arguably now have it at 200 as well so expect to see the ban there moving forward.

Well that would be ridiculous if it was World Athletics position. I think they just adopted a pragmatic position to stick with their most persuasive evidence in order to win the CAS case. Hopefully they are continuing to assemble the evidence to take it further. However successful but battered and bruised I wouldn’t be surprised if they gave the subject a rest for a while. Women’s Athletics remains under considerable threat as the woke juggernaut rumbles on.

There is no "woke juggernaut" rumbling on Laps. Anti woke rhetoric to knock down anything you don't agree with is just simplistic. Women's sport is at risk with Laurel Hubbard being able to compete BUT the transgender issue is totally different from DSD and the two should not be conflated.

I believe it is totally wrong for a former male who has benefitted physically from male puberty to compete against women in sport. Lowering testosterone does not eliminate the initial gains to a point of parity.

The DSD rules targeted Semenya et al and their events. It does not take a rocket scientist to see that higher levels of testosterone will aid athletes who cannot do the 400m, in the sprints. After all most 400m elite runners are elite 200m and often 100m runners. Caster was not running the short sprints or competing in field events otherwise the evidence would have been broader and knocked out all events!

This isn't the place for this discussion but I will once again remind you what WOKE means: "Alert to injustice in society, especially racism". I am happy to be regarded as WOKE.

Revee Walcott-Nolan was slightly affected by the incident in which Hassan fell. She would have lost more than 1/100th of a second there so she was unlucky.
