Got to say, the red button coverage of this morning's session of athletics has been pretty nice, not gonna lie.

Hmm, no time to throw in your British Trials final run in this opening heat, Cindy Sember....

Sember is somewhat up and down this year to say the least.

Most of her runs this year have been good... but then there are those occasional bad runs... and this one was in that category... Hopefully she's got it out of her system now and will run more like her 12.58 self in the semifinals

I have her for a top 6. Was I my usual optimistic self?.
Who ever is drawn in jewetts heat in the semis is going to know he s going to have a fast race .

I am scoring that a ten for irony , philipo ! Glad to see some humour behind the grumpy old man facade ...

If I had said what we all know the roof would have fallen on me from the usual crowd. Dont say a certain level of weakness of mentality. The overhyped mr Dustin was supremely sanguine about his indifferent performance.when interviewed. Our athletes are beginning to excel at PR about their performances. Did they interview Okoye. The big team proponents will have their say.

Bit early to call "disaster" , no ?

                    3 women in 100 - tick
                    same for 800
2 of 100h through - if less than impressive.
                    2 of 3 men in 800
                    1 of 3 women in 400h
                    2 jumpers qualified for final.

OK 5000 was poor - though Markovc got a PB so let's not shoot her , eh ?
And Okoye was a flop - which does happen in throws sometimes.

Middling so far , I'd say.

I’d say that we were below par so far but not yet complete disaster. Gale did well to get to the final I think. I wouldn’t have been surprised if asha hadn’t made the semis so that’s a plus. Daryll’s pb was great.
biggest negatives provably okoye, mccolgan, knight and Dustin - I don’t want to sound too motherhood and apple pie about it but you can see mitigating circs with each other than okoye

In the Women's 400m hurdles Heat 3 (McLaughlin's heat), Ukraine's Mykolenko was given a yellow card after the runners were brought back to the blocks, and allowed to run (official time 57.86). BUT the results show she was disqualified under rule TR 16.5.3. If she only got a warning, why disqualified? Does anyone know how she may have "disturbed other runners"?

I haven’t seen the race, but possibly was DQ, protested, ran under protest (the yellow) and kicking off held up the race = the disturbance, so DQ upheld?

It reminded me just a little, only a little, of black monday in 1960 in Rome when two of our faves for medals went packing. I recall Arthur Rowe and Gordon Pirie.

I bet before the season is over aat least one of the athletes you mentioned will perform much better, maybe a DL meet.

You’d certainly hope so - no one wants to finish their season on their worst performance of the year, whatever the issue behind today might be, that we are not always privy to on the day. Something positive to take into the off season is always best

I note McColgan moaning about being clipped: lots athletes not as rated as her did not get clipped. I hate her gait and style but a 14.28 runner should do far better. Hardly inexperienced. Third Olympics.

It is certainly frustrating that she hasn’t yet worked out how to look after herself better - I’d imagine it’s a desire to run the least distance, but she’s never really got to grips with racing. Talent is there, tactics need work

Well Prescod got a tough heat with 3 faster rated guys.
Will have opportunity to demonstrate his current condition..Hughes will need to run convincingly to survive. Utah can def make it to the semis.
