Weird seeing the Germans wearing so little red on their kit.

Some very quick times, it is warm out there but the spikes are having an effect IMO. Well done to Daryll👍 2Comment

Made the mistake of searching Del Ponte on Twitter after her brilliant run in SAFPs heat... Jamaican athletics fans are the worst people, clearly only watch the sport out of national pride rather than enjoyment of the sport. A mix of ridiculing and outright disrespect. I remember they did similar to Cindy Roleder after she won a world medal when Danielle Williams became world champion. Did the same to Dafne Schippers too.Last edited by Christy93; 30-07-21, 05:05.Comment

This Okoye bloke you’re all talking about. Is he related to a 20 year old who threw 65m in qualifying in London?
His technique is ugly, but I thought, if anything, he’d become more consistent and slightly lost the ability to throw big.
Anyone can bomb in qualifying - Backley and Zelezny among others - but there is no doubt that Okoye is the biggest frustration in British athletics. Hope he sticks with it though.
Well done to Gale and, particularly, Neita. The w100 looks loaded.Comment

This track must be very fast - some of those times for a first round were outrageous ! Neita was excellent. DAS didn't set the sort of time some of her rivals managed but she appeared to me to coast to the line from quite some way short of the line : was very relaxed. Semis will tell us a lot more.Comment

Dasher playing it cool in a conventional manner. Save your powder/adrenaline for later. I'm pretty sure she'll break her British record. Could be the speedsters setting daunting times in these heats won't have quite so much adrenaline.Would not be surprised if they slowed a bit......but excited to see the semi's! For sure....

Well, Dina has herself, in my opinion, one of the *easier* semi finals. Out of the field she's up against in semi final 1, only Elaine Thompson-Herah would be considered a genuine threat. Pinto peaked in the morning heats, I don't believe Okagbare will get into the low 10.80's needed to trouble Dina, and Prandini is better over 200 m. Plus, Asher-Smith was definitely reserving her effort for the later rounds. I distinctly remember a certain Mr Bolt ambling to a 10.05 or thereabouts in the 100 m heats at London 2012 while several of the other contenders blitzed significant sub 10 times.... I think folks know what happened next.
Expect to see DAS run either a low 10.80 or into the 10.70's for a new British record.
Here is the start lists for those semi finals btw.... https://olympics.com/tokyo-2020/olym...nl-000100-.htm👍 2Comment
