  • A fascinating Triathlon. Flora Duffy was probably always a good bet to win that once she finished the bike leg in the leading group. Taylor-Brown the only one who might have given her a contest : really rotten luck getting that flat tyre , would have been interesting to see them racing for the Gold . Bermuda has their first ever Olympic Gold ... reckon they might declare a National Holiday 😀

Was a terrific effort on the part of Taylor-Brown to recover from that to take the Silver ; and Georgia looked delighted with her result at the finish.

Hope it is another good omen for Tuesday like Yee's start to Magic Monday ...

A long way , indeed. I wouldn't be writing off the track cyclists just yet either : they have for some years had a knack of producing their best at Olympics and doing better than previous results indicated ... may well produce some good results again here.

A lot of joy for GB fans late yesterday. (Pidcock , Williams - so nearly another Gold : bit stiff to have two Taekwondo hopes having victory snatched away in the last ten seconds! ) But I think my highlight yesterday was seeing Tom Daley finally get his hands on an Olympic Gold. And what a way to do it ! Fantastic performance from him and Matty Lee to produce that magnificent final dive and leave too tough a target (just!) for even that excellent Chinese pair to overcome... even better to win , not through any weakness in your opponents , but just through a supreme effort in the vital moment .

Fourth for the men's gymnasts and Burgess in the white water stuff... cannot complain about all that !

But if Walkden makes the final today and is ahead with ten seconds to go I am switching off my stream for fear of hexing her...

        • Looks like Great Britain's rugby 7's side have learned precisely *nothing* from the final they reached in Rio 2016. They got roasted by the formidable Fuji side then.... and they got curb-stomped by them again in the last few minutes, this time in the group game.

Sandbagging in a dead rubber ? No , I think Fiji are just too good... Gold is probably theirs to lose. GB will , I think , improve ; but a minor medal is the maximum possibility for them and they'll need to be at their best even for that.

        • OK a 1-2 in the 200 free ! Only it was Dean first Scott second by a whisker - a little unexpected. Good for the relay , eh ?

I wonder how many more "Toms" are in the GB team ? 😃

          • Great 1_2 first double for 113 years. Tippe and mckeown wins . Great. Maybe koleskinov will now do the business.

              • Spectacular 1-2 from Dean and Scott! People were quite bullish about our chances in the pool beforehand and it was entirely justified. 4 golds on day 4 is great going

There’s various obscure anti-spam measures in place. I can’t post tables, for example.

                    • Impressive from McKeown ... another Aussie women's gold keeping the US in the background... Titmus looks nailed on for the 200 tomorrow.

Russian 1-2 in the men's back. Doubles a feature of the day...

The first British 1-2 in the Olympic swimming pool since 1908... meaning the last time this happened, the Titanic was still being built and women were still fighting to get the vote in elections.... amazing stuff!

                        • More surprises in the pool! It was Jacoby, not King, who won the 100 m breaststroke gold medal! The 17 year old, the first ever representative from the state of Alaska to be on the US Olympic swim team, only goes on to beat the reigning Olympic and World champion (King) and the current world record holder (Schoenmaker)!

                          • I guess we always knew there would be a few surprises this year due to the peculiar situation faced by everyone because of Covid. Certainly have been a couple in the pool already : wonder if we will see similar when it comes to the Athletics ?

                            • There's been a couple of real shocks - Hafnaoui in the 400free being the obvious one, but most of the results have been reasonably expected - Jacoby is only 17 and getting better by the race but still came into the Games well in the hunt for the medals. A bit like Popovici on the men's side if he were to get on the podium.

For me, a lot of the results in the pool are akin to if Dasher wins the 100m - it would be a surprise but it wouldn't be a shock. If that makes sense?

Dawson will be disappointed in her swims here but it was always possible that she plateau-ed a bit after dropping a lot so quickly. Still had a good season to build on. If she can pick herself up for the mixed medley relay, there's a chance of a medal there.

Yes , that makes sense. Agree with your take on these results , Marra.

mystery. your silly comment trying to infer that i only maintain rankings in track and field mean something when i say so and not otherwise
Thats nonsense. The statement i referred to was an informed source, NOT me, stating that the top 80 percent of medals in globals athletics come from the top 5 athleticsof the annual Toplists such as WA or tilastopaja. My views on that informed source are not relevant. Do stop misbehaving like a baby.

Oh take a tease as it is meant, you old sausage... You've been proved right with your rowing warnings and wrong elsewhere, it's all fun and games.
