How ridiculous that the BBC said this a.m. that if you want to watch the swimming watch at 1.55 p.m. and the screen showed that time and yet the Red button was different; Idiots.

The Red Button streams are also live on the iPlayer. And on channel 601 (for Freeview) on your TV as opposed to actually using the red button on your remote.Comment

Thks lucky. Just found that on my tv one goes to youtube which shows iplayer window which then shows the red button. Oh to be a technology wiz like you. 😄Comment

Great NR by the 4x100m Free Women. Gold is absolutely locked in but there's an outside chance of bronze medal there for them I reckon. Litchfield and Wilmott probably less so but if you've got a lane... Peaty doing Peaty things.
Another win for the GB women in football and the Men in Hockey. Both Murrays and (currently more successful) doubles partners won their first round matches.
Rowing a mixed bag (Men's Four looked supreme, others less so).
Gymnastics likewise - comfortable qualification to the team final and a few individual finals, but nothing that will scare the world.
All in all, a pretty solid day for GB though.👍 1Comment

If Wilmott doesn't medal in the final, I think she'll be disappointed, especially with how strong she looked on the breaststroke, back and freestyle in the semi-final.Comment

On Aimee Wilmott, I think she's got more than an outside shot at the podium.... Unless Hosszu was ultra-sandbagging in that semi-final swim, she didn't look like the dominant force that's ruled the 400 m IM for the past decade today. A dominant Hosszu would absolutely try to win the heat and semi-finals to assert her will on the rest of the field. She didn't do that today and her usual strengths like the backstroke (reigning world 200 backstroke champion) didn't come through for her against that American and Wilmott.
If Wilmott doesn't medal in the final, I think she'll be disappointed, especially with how strong she looked on the breaststroke, back and freestyle in the semi-final.Comment

Has been a very rough day technically for Discovery & Eurosport. Lots of things going wrong - although they got lots of pictures they have had horrible trouble getting multilingual commentaries to work, and even several medal finals were left with no commentary at all. A long way short of the standard needed.Comment

Today's swimming was not necessarily a good guide for GB success. Peaty aside, none of the events were ones that we are seriously expected to medal in. Both Litchfield & Wilmott could medal but they aren't favoured to. Swimming will always be tough but we'll have a lot of decent shots through the week.
Weightlifting is an interesting one. There have been mass restrictions at these Olympics on a bunch of nations with serious doping histories. 4 countries completely banned and others restricted to only a couple of athletes.Comment

The message on the swimming is surely clear now, that is, the morning finals and the semis are already showing the pressures and toughness of morning swims, and perhaps increasing the chances of surprises, like the men's 400m win for the young Tunisian, who did not drop off like the Europeans. I think the European guys swam badly in tactical terms. How fasinating that the Tunisian guy only got into the final by a minute part of a second and from the outside lane he did the business.
. As i have said the idea of a hatful of British medals is clearly not realistic and the change in pattern of swimming times has got more surprises for us yet.
Delighted with O'hashi's Gold in the 4 IM; some really good heat swims have turned out to be not replicated in the final or semis; more surprises to come and we better get ready for our likely only individual Gold , AP of course, who looked majestic
First world record by the Aussies, no surprises there, but we lost our chances in the relay with Hope's slightly poorer leg. I am looking forward to seeing Abbie Wood and Anna Hopkin performing during this Games..Comment

Re the relay - whilst they might be slightly disappointed, it's important to recognise the context and measure of how far they have come. We broke the British record again. Let's not forget that we've not even entered a team at Olympics or Worlds since 2012! To go from that to 5th here is something to absolutely be proud of and all of that team can realistically look to Paris.
I didn't have us medalling in any of the 4 events tonight, so I'm not remotely worried about our chances. 5th was what I expected, at best, from that relay, 4th from Litchfield was better than I expected. Wilmott is maybe the only slight disappointment but certainly not a shock.
We might not get the hatful of medals but judging it based on these swims, as I said in my last post, is not the way to prove that.
Fabulous swimming from the Aussie 4x1 women. They were always the class and always a decent shot to break the world record. Have to say that the Tunisian fella winning the 400m free will probably go down as one of THE shocks of the entire Games. Fair play to him.Comment
