Just 3 so far - Whittaker, McCormack on the men's side; Artingstall on the women's. 5 others left in competition - 3 are at QF stage, 2 more at last 16. 3 have been eliminated.
We've got a sailing medal guaranteed as well in the women's windsurfing.

I don't think Kath Grainger is someone who suffers fools easily - if we're talking about Redgrave's determination and will to win, she deserves some discussion in that area. You don't have the career she did if you look for the easy answers.
And clearly a review is necessary and will happen. But you don't ignore the good things that were done just to find someone to blame. Some of those 4ths were disappointing (the Men's Four for example). Some were unexpectedly good (Thornley). A blanket approach of just looking at the lack of medals won't help.
I still think that come Paris rowing will be back to one of our most reliable medal winners, even without drastic changes behind the scenes.

The headline is sobering ... 'Great Britain failed to win an Olympic rowing gold for the first Games since 1980 as the men's eight crew took bronze in the final race of the Tokyo 2020 regatta.'
It has clearly been a very disappointing regatta for Team GB. Frankly listening to Katherine Grainger, and others, makes me worry that any deep review will get distracted by highlighting, a plethora of 'plucky 4ths'. What we need is Sir Steve Redgrave returning from running Chinese rowing, and his winning mentality ...

yes, I was nervous for that decision with Whittaker, but you just know he is 'box office' with a pro career beckoning. I cant work out exactly the Team GB boxing so far, but 11 started, 3 medals guaranteed so far, I think 3 are eliminated, with 5 more chances (but dont quote me)...Last edited by carterhatch; 30-07-21, 06:29.

Boxers are going well. Though Whittaker flirted with doom in that fight : too much style and a bit short on the real action ? He's through anyway and can reassess for the semi. Hope McCormack's eye responds to treatment...

That BMX is crazy stuff... couple of nasty accidents. They've been showing a lot of it on Aussie TV so I've seen most of it and frankly I'd have been a bit shocked if Shriever hadn't won : she totally dominated the heats and semis . But of course you are only ever a fall away from disaster. Thankfully no such problem though it was a close run final !
With Whyte getting silver in the men's BMX might become a British favourite sport 😀

And another from Ben Whittaker. Just. Very close but he's through to the SFs.
