I'll be honest, it's not an area I know that much about. I'm a casual boxing fan but certainly not an expert.

That being said, when I was making my predictions and looking at the various draws/past results etc, I had Pat McCormack getting a gold, Lauren Price and Karriss Artingstall silvers and Galal Yafai, Peter McGrail, Ben Whittaker and Frazer Clarke picking up bronze.

So far, McGrail is the only one out. McCormack, Whittaker, Price and Artingstall have at least a bronze. So, to my inexpert eye, we're about where we would hope to be at this point.

It feels like the boxers have done well - do you know anything about what they were expected to do please?

Updating my earlier post. Our current total of 8G, 9S, 10B means that this is the 11th best Summer Olympics for GB in terms of both Golds won and total medals. With the 4 boxing medals guaranteed, the total medals will end up being the 9th best Games for us, even if we win no others.

I said after day 1 of the swimming - when you were continuing to say that we would be lucky to get more than 3/4 medals in the pool, that your position was more 'realistic' than others (your choice of words) because 'professional predictors' agreed with you - that we would improve as the meet went on and our medal haul would be good. And that's exactly what has happened. It's also happened in other sports as well, compared to the people who you were championing.

But it is annoying when you say things like "better than expected" as if your opinion somehow carries more weight than any of ours. Rather than saying "hey, I got it wrong, you guys were right", you act like nobody else saw it coming/could reasonably have seen it coming. So, yeah, I'm being a bit boastful. Sue me.

As for swimming medals, like my predictions in general, I was probably too optimistic in part, and not optimistic enough in others.

I had Peaty, Scott (200FR), Greenbank and the men's 4x200 all getting exactly the medals they ended up with. Have Proud getting a bronze, the mixed medley getting gold and the men's medley getting silver still up in the air.

Didn't pick Dean or Scott (in the 200IM) to medal - thought they would both finish 4th.

Thought Wood and Dawson would both get silver and that Renshaw and Wilby (in the 100br) would get bronze each.
for gods sake stop being so hysterical. I am not a person who did a fanatical detailed selection and yes so i underestimated and got things to wrong so fucking what ?? as far as total medals .
    . i think you need some sleep poster;
If i want to say better than expected than i will say again" better than expected" and if the Swimming performance Director says better than expected is he to be pilloried in your super expert opinion .?
You are turning out to be slightly weird with your ridiculous attacks.
So i will say yes our team did better, but mainly in Reays, because we did not do as well as i hoped in the individual womens races.
Do grow up with your shameful rubbish about " sue me". When i said "better than expected" its so obviously only in my opinion that i dont need to keep saying the words" in my opinion". It is a given,

Giving up on posting about that medley relay : robots just don't like me it seems. But Price did that very easily . Suppose she should as number one seed.

Smart moves by the team to withdraw Guy and Hopkin from individual swims to prioritize the relay...paid off in spades. Hopkin had to hold off some big names - did so in style, never really in doubt.

If Guy can repeat that sort of magic in the fly leg tomorrow the men will fancy their chances !

Lauren Price secures another medal in the boxing ring. Outclassed her Panamanian opponent.

Hmm. Three attempts to post in praise of the mixed medley WR win all stopped by the robots for some reason. ? Will just say "well done" and see if that makes it

Exhilarating stuff. Peaty made up a mile on the teams who started with male swimmers - and Guy put in an amazing fly leg. Hopkin had a good lead but some big names chasing her ; but never in doubt - withdrawal from the 50free paid off. And a WR to add icing to the cake ...

Need more of these mixed events...

That was exhilarating . Peaty made up so much after starting a mile behind all those who had male swimmers first - and Guy put in a terrific fly leg to give Hopkin a decent lead . She had some big names out after her but really never looked in doubt...withdrawing from the 50 free paid off for her 👍 And a WR to put the icing on the cake...

I just love the mixed medley. Just plain exciting to watch. And that team was phenomenal, smashing the old WR. If Dawson hadn't slipped at the start, probably could have been half a second quicker.

Got to feel for Jacoby though. Swimming 100m, against Adam Peaty, with her goggles in her mouth. That's Jessie Knight level unfortunate.

I think the 4 nations Brits probably most like to beat in sport are France, USA, Germany and Australia and they were all beaten there.
Working...
