    • Italian Team Pursuit have the problem that one rider - Filippo Ganna - is just so ridiculously better than the others that he has to hold back to stop creating gaps. Danes are better balanced.

I didn’t see the men’s, but it does seem to be the trend for the 4th rider to drop off much earlier than before. Even when Denmark set the men’s WR they were down to 3 before 2,375m.
I think GB has a better 5th rider to come in than other teams. Some teams only have 4 that can ride.that could be a huge factor if Germany and the USa don not have a 5th lady .

I'm pretty sure only GB have a five woman team, yeah.

It's possible that we could shift the team to bring Neah Evans in, true. I'm not convinced that it would necessarily make that much of a difference. Most teams run the same four a lot of races, GBR included. The bigger issue will be whether the Germanys recovery between rounds is as good. We know the GBR/USA have done that. We've not yet seen it from the Germans at this level.

        • Couple more medals guaranteed - first ever British woman's weightlifter and in the individual horse eventing. Been a good week for the horses

          • Emily-Jane Campbell gets silver behind a dominant Chinese lifter in the heavyweights. I think that means she would have beaten a certain controversial Kiwi amongst others?

No need for transphobic comments on this site.

          • Honestly, I step away for 10 minutes and GBR get another 2 medals! Great stuff in the Eventing and fantastic by Campbell in the weightlifting.

            • Surely you didn't have us down for a weightlifting medal in that event?
              if you did huge kudos.

I didn't, though she was always in the conversation - I figured she would end up about 5th. She definitely outperformed her ranking coming into the Games.

I did have us down for a bronze in another weight catagory, where we ended up 4th.

Weightlifting has gone through a HUGE amount of change in terms of banning athletes/countries with absurd drugs records. It's meant that athletes from none powerhouse countries in the sport (like us) are starting to get a chance.

Yes I was aware of the other lady being a medal shot, but had Campbell down for 6th. Great that she massively stepped out. The drug scrutiny and bans is clearly levelling out the playing field.

What I liked about it was that the team clearly was willing to push it as high as they could, not just sneak a measly bronze. Didn’t come off for Sarah Davies earlier, did for Emily. Definitely a programme that needs to be financed now. Sadly our men are hopeless, though.

            • They're now showing **the same hockey match on both channels** while still not having shown the finals of the men's steeple or the women's 5000.

                • Hockey shoot-out between GB and Spain's women.

GB win. Maddy Hinch* is one hell of a goalkeeper. Will meet the Dutch in the semis.

*She had a 4th and a 5th place in the English Schools javelin in the 2000s by the way.

So f*cking bbc.. they dont give a toss. They know full well with the streams from elsewhere and no Brits in either race they can do whatever and the studio mob are so uninteresting ; even MJ is not up to his usual excellence.
This constant channel switching is playing the devil with my arthritis😄
