Both of them did well on floor in the AA - in fact better then they did to qualify.

Maybe they've just upped their total medals prediction by a percentage roughly equal to that by which we have exceeded their predictions so far? Not very scientific if that's the case.

"At this stage, it looks like Great Britain could finish fourth on total medals, ahead of hosts Japan. A few more gold medals will be required to finish that high on the gold-ordered table, though. The current Gracenote forecast of 16 for Great Britain would almost certainly mean fifth place on the final medal table."
Don't know how Gracenote cooks up these figures. Nice if they are right but honestly I cannot quite see where another 28 medals are coming from. Perhaps the golds could actually do better than 16 if the cards fall favourably but I am not placing bets at the moment. Prefer to watch and see

Gymnastics womens floor is a chance, by no means a great chance but a chance finals tend to be filled with errors. Biles not being there has given all 8 finalists a chance. If the British girl can execute as well as she did @ europeans she will be top 5.. Biles absence could lead some of the favourites to take more risks as the big G is now more of a possibility. I think Biles , even with errors in past champs was almost unbeatable on floor.

I noticed that Laura Muir was tipped to win the 1500 a few months ago by the Gracenote experts, since then I’ve given them a wide berth.

I’ve been quite disconcerted by how well Russia have done, they’ve won more medals in swimming than they did in 2012

Sailing is a reasonable chance - we're sitting in 2nd on the Mens 49er and 5th in the Womens going into the medal race. Both could still win medals, Men obv more likely.

Very outside shot is Weightlifting Womens 87+kg - Emily Campbell is ranked 6th coming in, I believe, but not far behind silver/bronze in terms of weights lifted in past competitions. Weightlifting often tends to be one of the more predictable events though, so definitely nothing more than a small chance.

Equestrian will be our main hopes today, we are overnight leaders in both categories. Gymnastics are outsiders, and in athletics, shooting and cycling we have no qualified finalists.

Full marks to Max Whitlock : brilliant performance basically blew the rest of them away . He set himself for the one event and must have felt under a lot of pressure (indeed his comments this afternoon before the final indicate he did) but he just did what the true stars do : produced the goods when it counts. Like Peaty , he just doesn't let himself or his team down πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

He really laid down the gauntlet, and none of them could match it. Great to see after he put all his eggs in that pommel horse shaped...basket (not the best metaphor, I accept).

Confirmed medals in two sailing classes - Scott in the Finn, Gimson/Burnet in the Mixed Nacra.

I make that 6 confirmed medals with the colour yet to be determined - 4 in boxing, 2 in sailing.

I thought BMX freestyle was one of those annoying pointless editions, but Charlotte Worthington failing her move on the first run then landing it on the second was up there as one of the all-time great British Olympic moments.
