Also, I don't know whether this has been mentioned elsewhere but Pat McCormack is guaranteed at least silver as his SF opponent, Aidan Walsh of Ireland, has pulled out injured.

Fair play to the US in the Men's medley. Their B team scraped into the final but their A take down the world record. GB with a European Record in silver - by the standards they have set themselves, they will be disappointed with that - had they been truly at their absolute best I think they could have snatched it from the US but even then it would have been close.
Earlier on two 5th places in very different freestyle events - Dan Jervis in 1500m (will likely be frustrated with time a bit but placing was about as good as could hope) and Ben Proud in 50m (likely to be very annoyed with that, there was a silver medal there had he been at his best).
Fine finish to a great week in the pool - both in world terms with several world records falling and in GB terms, with our swimmers having their best Games ever.👍 2Comment

Declan Brooks picks up a bronze in BMX Freestyle - what a week for GB BMXers. Four riders, all medal, 2 gold, a silver and a bronze!Comment

Plenty of action so far today...
BMX trick cycling clearly one designed to appeal to the younger demographic but it is such a spectacle and so athletic and challenging I reckon it is worth a place in the Olympics. GB and Australia will both agree after taking the respective women's and men's titles ! Worthington doing that unique trick when needed to win gold quite a moment 👏
Well done the swim team. Would have liked a gold in the final event but second to WR USA ain't bad. Scott has had a fine games , as has Peaty.
GB in the lead in the Eventing in both team and individual with just the jumping round to come. Fingers crossed ...Comment

Whittaker clearly the better boxer and deservedly through to the final despite the bizarre contrarian view of the Moroccan judge... He's a confident lad , eh ?Comment
-
Yeah, he's confident but at times in the previous match it seemed too confident. This one was more comfortable in the end.
I do give on boxing judges at times though. Like, I can get a split decision where it comes down to one judge by one point. But when 4 of them give it to one boxer, two of them comfortably, it's weird to see the 5th be so confident the other way!

Controversy at the boxing as Frazer Clarke is through to the semi final after his French opponent is disqualified...was not a happy chap at all ! Clarke telling his trainer he didn't want to win that way but as his wise minder tells him : don't worry about that. Just take the win and move on to the semi...Last edited by alfie; 01-08-21, 05:56.Comment

Frazer Clarke gets a bronze at least, in the most bizarre circumstances. French boxer warned for using his head too much, then disqualified for continuing. Don't think I've seen that happen in a while. Frenchman was absolutely incensed. Was probably winning the fight on points but only seems to have himself to blame, at least to my inexpert eye. Maybe someone more versed can give a better view?
Clarke will have his hands full in the SF though, the Uzbeki fighter looks seriously classy.Comment

If my maths/understanding of sailing is correct, I think we're guaranteed a medal in the Nacra 17 class. One race left (the medal race where points are doubled) but if I'm right the Brits - who are currently in silver - can't be caught by the team in 4th now.Comment

He really laid down the gauntlet, and none of them could match it. Great to see after he put all his eggs in that pommel horse shaped...basket (not the best metaphor, I accept).
Confirmed medals in two sailing classes - Scott in the Finn, Gimson/Burnet in the Mixed Nacra.
I make that 6 confirmed medals with the colour yet to be determined - 4 in boxing, 2 in sailing.Comment
