      • Every time I watch handball - generally every 4 years - I really enjoy it. Shame it’s not bigger in this country.

        • Delighted to see Emma Twigg getting gold for NZ in the single sculls...

Thornley for GB rowed a great race ; but finished ...fourth , of course 🙂

            When it's not your week....

Unlike some other boats, Thornley wasn't really expected to be there. But it's admirable commitment to a bit for another 4th place this week for GB.

        • Bronze, great effort

It was a great effort from the men's 8.... but...

As has been pointed out by the BBC commentators, in Rio, the GB rowing team came away with 3 golds and silver... Here in Tokyo, a silver, 2 bronzes and a bunch of 4ths. For £75 million in funding, is that going to be enough to justify that outlay of cash?

            • Thank the Lord for that ! Did feel the eight were getting better through their races , fancied them to medal . At one point I thought they were definite second and chasing NZ - then for a few horrible moments I was fearing another fourth...
Photo finish off silver ; but at least another medal.

Doesn't rescue a desperately disappointing regatta. But with one silver and one bronze plus six fourth places you can see they are not that far away. But need to work on a few things over the next year or two...

I thought they said 39 million, either way, clearly not. We just need to readjust for 3 years time. The last 3 Olympics have been superb, was expecting less this time but not quite the harsh drop

                • Personally I don't think any sport should have their funding changed before Paris for the negative. It's a shortened cycle, we still don't really know what impact differing covid restrictions have had.

6th and 7th for Renshaw and Wood. Think they should be disappointed with that (Renshaw especially). Schoenmaker was always a class above (what a WR performance that was) but there were minor medals there if they had been on truly top form.

There have been a lot of rowers retiring since Rio so overall it is quite a young team.

                • Well done luke

                  • Great swim from Luke Greenbank with a bronze medal in the 200 m backstroke, behind winner Rylov and USA's Murphy.

It was a great swim. Have to give some kudos to the winner who could have been intimidated as Scott came at him up the final length.

                      • Great swim for Duncan Scott there for silver, new NR. But just couldn't catch Wang who put in a crazy time.

                        • Rylov's presentation was the first Russian gold medal one I'd seen. Didn't realise they played the music that starts the 1981 hit "Hooked on Classics"!
