Yeah, will be pulled from the 4x400m squads. I like that they have taken 9 women, since it is basically only 4 relay spots as the other 5 are already there.

Kilty and NMB in the relay squad - Andrew Robertson looked over again !!!

I guess that's why Kilty ran the 200. He was told so long as he ran anything he'd be in the squad....

There's an awful lot of doubling in there.

        Good doubles:
        Dina (duh)
        Judd (earned it)
McColgan (no brainer if Weightman is injured)
        Marc Scott (why not?)

        Bad doubles:
Muir (stupid idea, will just do less well in two events rather than being a real chance for a medal in the 1500m)

        Why no double?:
        Hughes

Dina yes, and yeah no problem with Scott. Not sure about the others.
Zharnel I'm baffled by. I would've thought his best chance was the 200.

Putting my 'UK selector with a top 8 mandate' hat on, Prescod is a perfectly logical pick - high variance, could totally flame out but also has top 8 potential as a 2017 finalist and 2018 European Silver. It's the same reason they pulled all the stops out for Mo.
Putting my 'Alex Bell hasn't been selected, and people like Walcott-Nolan, Holly Mills and Emily Borthwick didn't get a sniff': WTAF...

Only 5 men down for the 4x4? How does that work with the mixed as well?

rule state you can draft any "Team" member in (once out there), but seeing as we have no one in the individual for 4 flat or hurdles and only Adam in the 2, would leave really only a 8 runner

Yes - that's what I meant no other individuals or hurdlers. Dunno enough about 800 guys tbh!

Given that we've only got 5 specialist 400 guys under 46 this year, and we've got some truly world class 800 fellas, I wouldn't be shocked if they could actually justify a place off a rolling start.

Was wondering about Amy-Eloise Markovc being named in the 5000 but, checking WA's Road To Tokyo and her WA profile, it seems like her 15:05.96 in the USA has now been ratified. Hoorah!

I agree with the general sentiment querying why Our Laura is doubling, especially given that the 800 comes before the 1500 (there's actually some crossover (if she makes the 800 final).

Oh yes, they don't have the standard - it's more I'm referring to the fact that someone running 10.3 and 21.x this year gets to go whereas the above don't.

Well, The KJT roller coaster continues, has she competed at all this year, to then rock up to the Olympics, that is __________, (fill in as appilcable)

As I said about Laura Muir, she better win two medals or else its just a huge vanity project. Had she simply focused on 1500, been tasked to run it hard at trials to drag others around, we would now have two other, very deserving, athletes on the list Alex Bell and Revee...

Nine, 9, Nine? Women in the 4 x 400 squad. Why not just add Megan Beasley and make it a round number... Are some of them going to cover for the men's relay too LOL

Reece Prescod must count himself a very lucky man, and I dare not think what the next 'what can go wrong, will go wrong' MHS chapter will be...

There is supposed to be a UKA selection procedure, but Prescod running early 10.30s did not did get selected for the 100m as a Phase 1 Automatic; but no doubt under section 4, i assume. Form and fitness, what ??? just to build up the numbers to justify the amount of money spent in a 4 year cycle on athletics. Nice big team so you select everybody form or not. What the F was the selection document for??

The fans or whatever they profess to be are not interested in Team selection policy; just select everybody. Pathetic
The argument that he deserves to be selected is pathetic; he came over here for a week to indicate over the weekend that he is out of form and clearly ran like a plonker.

Carter you r so right. The Muir /Young team are in it to satisfy her ego; in my view she will not medal in either event; we all recall in Rio when she ran with little strategic sense she wouldn't budge or admit she ran a poor race. Such a courageous athlete in many ways but makes wrong decisions... she wont run 6 races, cos she will not get to both finals.

Completely echo this - the only two selections I believe are incorrect are Prescod (although as mentioned, I understand the rationale) and Muir in the 800m. Everyone else on this list has met the Olympic qualification criteria and generally performed well this season, or has enough in the bank (Gemili, KJT) to warrant selection.

        • #14
Nine, 9, nine!? women in the 4x400 'squad' strikes me as overly generous, and Emily Diamond, is the luckiest of all these (had Amber Anning performed to par, i doubt Ms. Diamond would be dusting off her passport) Worse, I hope they dont try and qualify by resting one-too-many of the individual runners, that could end in tears.
