But isn't that partly because qualifying standards have got lot tougher?

Mo has got me thinking that it is quite rare for a reigning Olympic champion to not qualify to try to defend that title in athletics. By not qualify I am differentiating it from retiring (e.g. Kelly in 2008, Bolt this time), not making the team (e.g. Coe in '88 & numerous Americans down the years) and being too injured to try (e.g. Christian Taylor this year).

The U23/U20s are a 2 day meet with a 5000 (plus 1500s and 3000S/C). It makes perfect sense to me to have the 3000 at a separate meet.

We will and should take a relay as we have qualified for one of the 16 spots. We should only continue funding if we make the final. At the moment, the chances of that happening seem only slightly better than those of North Macedonia winning the Euros at the start of that tournament!

Think it was done to limit the numbers at Bedford last weekend

Hannah Williams has improved her 200m times by about Second. Recent footage of her steaming through the last 80 metres of a race to win it suggests she's still learning about her new ability. Could be due a good result in the final. Weather permitting id not be surprised to see her drop to 51.5.....

Glad Mo hasn't got the time . Too many issues and grey areas around his history of tests and associates.
One rule.for Mo and other rules for others .

Looking forward to the men's and womens hammer and see if Scott can further extend his Pb . Would be nice to see if Lewis Bing can get over 19m and get back in the game.
Would.be nice to also see a good wind and see Lawrence Okoye hit a perfect one and get 70m .

It was sad. It was futile. But it did kind-of get the juices flowing, one last time. An echo of the ages of a hero.
"The horn of Helm Hammerhand shall sound in the deep, one last time." said Theoden at the Battle of Helm's Deep. Or was it Hannah England.
...Anyway thanks for the incredible memories, man.

Yes, definitely some money that could better spent on the likes of Scott Lincoln for one.

Mo’s result was sadly predictable. Whether he should have given it a go at all is one question. But given he did, fair play to him for giving it a crack, not stepping off and then, despite his disappointment, fully acknowledging the crowd who’d stayed to watch him.

He's still entered in the 5000 tomorrow, but I can't see him turning up on the start line after tonight.
