I note, that as of today, there is no mention of this result on Po10 - I suspect the 'meeting' may not have been recognised (i forget the actual term)

I sense the wLJ at trials is going to be over looked somewhat by all the excitment on the track, but, I am hoping for a really high standard competition.

Indeed, I think Team GB women's jumps in general are most likely to be the ones offering 'world class' competition' as from what I can see NO male has achieved an OQ mark, in any jump, in 2021!!

Tom Gale is on the comeback trail after his operation last year. Hopefully he can get back to his best. 2.33 is a really tough standard for the men's HJ.

Admittedly men's LJ and TJ are both dire atm.

Yep, the UK's 3 male jumpers with the Olympic Qualifier all did it in 2019/early 2020 (Williams in TJ, Gale in HJ and Coppell in PV). I would say that Gale opened his season in May with a smooth 2.27m clearance for a UK-lead, in his only comp so far this season (https://www.instagram.com/tomjamesgale/?hl=en) and Coppell has gone 5.45m, 5.55m, 5.65m in his first 3 comps so appears to be warming up nicely.

It was a jump in quality for her

Statman_Jon makes an interesting comparison on his twitter, noting, ‘NINE years apart, but the same 4 women at the top of the UK lists in an Olympic year.’

        2012 UK long jump rankings
        6.95 Shara Proctor
        6.80 Abigail Irozuru
        6.74 Lorraine Ugen
        6.67 Jazmin Sawyers

        2021 UK long jump rankings
6.94 Lorraine Ugen (note Statman_jon seems to accept this jump as eligible)
        6.90 Jazmin Sawyers
        6.77 Shara Proctor
        6.68 Abigail Irozuru

to be fair, three of them have probably got another olympic cycle in them, maybe even proctor who is the oldest at 32

Yeah, Sawyers was a 2nd year U20 who'd just won World Junior Bronze! She's still only 27

Yes, Drobbie, possible given the next in Paris is only three years away, but I do rather hope for the health of the sport that one or two younger athletes emerge, and if KJT were to stop competing in Hep, I wonder if she might focus on LJ for one last Olympic cycle...

Cheers, Occasional lHope, that will be a relief for Ms. Ugen and, I suspect, the selectors too.

Mystery, though we disagree on many aspects of our sport and I bow to your superior detailed knowledge, i love your eternal optimism; not my schtick.

If everyone agreed, things would be boring.

I do, however, think that Tom Gale is the most talented British high jumper since Steve Smith.

Hopefully Naomi Ogbeta will either qualify for the Triple Jump outright or get an invite as that would mean GB are represented in all the Women's Jump events in Tokyo.

possibly in stark contrast to the men, who might conceivably have no representation ...

Steve was a great HJerfor sure. My fave was his second in command who I knew. Lovely guy and will I ever forget his entry into the competition in a WC at 2.31 I think.Sorry I have forgotten his name

The great Dalton Grant.... audaciously entered the HJ comp in the 1991 WC at 2.31 and cleared on the first attempt I believe. Only missed out on silver or bronze medal on countback (he cleared 2.36m the same as Sotomayor and Conway).

I think to this day this remains the highest opening height in a major HJ competition.
