Hanna Green the one to miss out. Do we think Mu could figure in the medals in Tokyo?

Safe to say the starters are not the most popular people in Hayward Field by the sounds of things!Comment

Really, really looking forward to the W 10,000 tomorrow - a tremendous 44 woman field. They're now all in one race, not 2 races like was planned when they thought 50-odd runners would be competing. Startlist at https://results.usatf.org/
It's set to go off at 6pm UK time so I'll be ditching the last 3 events of the British Champs to watch it live!Comment

Jenna Prandini runs a 21.99 PB (-0.3) in the semis but who do NBC interview? Allyson Felix of course, who was two-tenths back in 2nd.Comment

And both Sturgis and brown out! Thomas is doing great. I’d not come across her before these champs -
Thomas has been around for a few years and has run quite a few times in Europe. Commentators would mention that she is a graduate of Harvard suggesting that she was quite strong academically as Ivy League colleges don't do sports scholarships. -
Interview with Gabby Thomas here: https://www.runnersworld.com/runners...lympic-trials/

Some ridiculously soft refereeing in the 110m H. One of the heats had 5 false starts with no-one even shown a yellow card. No wonder Americans get hysterical when they’re called out at international events.Comment
-
In fairness, the equipment did seem to be somewhat wonky - there was at least one of the false starts where the reaction time shown didn't remotely seem to match the replays. And they did eventually chuck someone out. It's tough to say for certain whether it was poor preparation from the athletes or poor equipment but the 4 false starts in the women's 400m H heat that followed do somewhat support the technology argument I'd say.

Some outstanding performances tonight. Holloway just missing the 110 WR, Benjamin likewise in the 400H, Thomas sending serious warning shots to SMU and DAS in the 200 and Knighton once again showing he's an absolute star in the making.
Add in Reece in the LJ, Price in the Hammer and Nageotte in the PV and this was a scarily good evening for the US if they can carry this form to Tokyo.👍 1Comment

Just catching up on the results overnight.
Gabby Thomas 21.61!!! She's been in good form and the conditions were clearly ideal for sprinting but even so where did that come from?
19.88 for 17 year old Erriyon Knighton beating Bolt's World Junior Record and also Noah Lyles for the 2nd time in 2 days.
Grant Holloway just 0.01 away from the world record. And Benjamin 46.83 - will be interesting to see what Warholm runs in Oslo next week. And Deanna Price over 80m in the Hammer.Comment

Knighton is a real phenomenon.
Some other major threats to the medals from the US. Maybe it's just me, but I quite like the effect this year is having with not seeing all the major contenders facing each other week in week out at DLs across the globe. It makes the Olympics all the more exciting as a reckoning.Comment

That's an interesting point. I have some sympathy when people complain that the big names don't face each other often enough, but, for me, things could go too much the other way and the novelty can wear off.
I felt that Kerr vs Wightman in the Trials yesterday was made more interesting as there have been times when they have been competing an ocean apart from each other. While the women's 400 had athletes from the NCAA, US based non-NCAA, some who'd run on the European circuit and others who had only been competing domestically.

Totally agree.
Cricket and rugby are other sports where you get a lot of the same old at what’s supposed to be the top level. Richie McCaw played against Australia a scarcely believable 37 times. Sachin Tendulkar made 84 ODI appearances against Sri Lanka alone.Comment

The Men's 5000m final is at 6pm UK time. Live YouTube stream for that due at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzE-kzTtnas
Then the remaining 5 track finals (Hep 800, W 400H, W 800, M 1500 & M 200) are on from midnight until 1am tonight.
Possible WR in the 400H? McLaughlin looked very comfortable running 53.03 in the semis.Comment

If you're okay with ESPN, I'm guessing it is this - https://www.espn.com/olympics/tracka...k-field-trials. Like you, I'm not going to click on that other link.
