I'm rooting for Jake Smith in the men's after he ran the marathon time too late for selection.

Potentially handy having your coach on the PA...

3 laps to go. No way that Mo gets the standard.

No go for Mo. Scott rallied towards the end to seal his spot.

Great race at the front. Amdouni looked dead and buried with a lap to go but he rallied for the win and Olympic standard. Mayo & Abdi also under 27:28.

Mo far from his old self today.

I think the issue is that Mo is his old self - he's now 38... Father Time never loses.

Good point. Just too old, do you think, or the lack of whatever Salazar brought to the table?

I think the former. All Salazar brought him was the last 400m, he could run fast times before.

Amdouni just 0.6s off breaking the French record set 29 years ago.
Mayo moves to #3 Spanish all-time.

Lorraine Ugen has jumped 6.74 in the US. Good start to her season.

Where does Mo go from here?

The easy answer is to the 10,000 in Leiden (NED) next Saturday to have another crack!

Even if he does get it though, he's not going to be a factor in Tokyo.

He was quite a way off the standard and no way he will recover from that race to have another serious crack in the next 2-3 weeks never mind next week.

Judd managed a 3 week gap between her first 10000m attempt and yesterday so no recovery reason why Farah couldn't do the same especially assuming yesterday was a lower muscular effort due to any ankle injury being the root cause of a very sub par effort.

Mo's great days are over, I believe, and retirement may not be too far away, if he is sensible; as for Scott too much talk about how good he is... maybe in Spring in the States. Great athletes are often like politicians; they dont know when to quit the stage which they have previously occupied with great distinction
I was underwhelmed by Scott, as he was way off what he has done this year, when it did not matter; When you look at the reasonable conditions tonight, which will be much more brutal in Tokyo than tonight Scott will likely be a bit of an irrelevance; for me he has left his best back in the USA months ago.; there were no Kenyan, Ethiopians or Ugandans guys who will operate a bit quicker I suspect.
Whatever times come up in the next few weeks in the 5 K , in my view our men and women representatives in the two big track distances, the 5K and 10 K, will play no significant part in what you will see in Tokyo. I suppose Scott may also go for the 5K in a few weeks time but i see nothing about him to enthuse about.

He didn't need to go any faster. He already has the standard and finishing as the top British athlete guaranteed him his spot, job done.

                          Agree Mo's time is over.

                          Mo's options are:

Try to get the standard somewhere.

Switch to the 5000 at the main trials.

                          Retire.
