  • in Geneva, where performances benefit a little from geography, I note that Borthwick beat Lake who had another of her underperformances with 1.90m; Beaten by Borthwick with 1.93.
Lake will be very lucky to be in the British team in my view; She appears to have no consistency perhaps due to a lack of mental strength, but benefits from poor female high jumpers here.; Lets hope Borthwick goes onwards and upwards over the next few seasons.

She has the standard from indoors. She just has to finish in the top 2 at the trials.

Well now, that is some very pleasant news! That's definitely a 11.06 or so in still air. So, that's 3 of our first choice 4x100m relay squad in good form now.... And Kristal Awuah is starting to show signs of life with her 11.39 SB a couple of days ago too.

Yes, promising, but I am not so keen on the Kristal Awuah idea, the last time I saw her run, there seemed to be a very deliberate change in her action, but I am not a bio mechanics expert... One last leg from Asha Phiilp before she passes on the baton for good, me thinks, ...

By the way, I'm following the weird results page for the individual disciplines at Arona, but does anyone have a link for the overall scores anywhere?

Meanwhile in other news: everyone in our house is singing a new song -- "Oliver Dustbin, remember the name!". Its catchy.
That's 2 days of my life (vainly) navigating that Arona website I'll never get back lol

LOL - you have my deepest sympathy, I have no idea why I put myself through it too, it couldn't have been easier if it were in English!

      • Doing some calculations ahead of the Arona 800m. If Holly can run around 2.11 which should see her score around 6230 and hold off Noor Vidts for 3rd Place - this should see her ranking score increase and should be enough to put her into a qualifying position for now. It won't be a comfortable position and very much a squeaky bum time situation for the next couple of weeks but not the doom & gloom position that some posters on here assume.

Let's hope she has another great 800m run as in Lana

Been on the cards for Pipi for a while. 8 women under 52 this year so far, if the rounds don't hurt people too much and the weather is nice, someone is going to have a breakthrough in the UK Champs final.

I said only yesterday - when discussing the three rounds for w400 at the British Champs - that Ms. Pipi was due a rewrite of her PB. I think some of the evetns will need their own thread at the trials hahahaha

Yes, can I echo the sentiment ... its thoroughly deserving and so pleased for Scot Lincoln.

        • That’s superb news. Delighted for him!

Shame there are no other Brits within 3m of him. Hopefully others will be inspired by his progress.

It was that last stat that makes this news quite significant beyond being an Olympic qualifier. Before this he seemed to be stuck in a certain amount of limbo between not having any real domestic opposition and being able to get in the really high-class competitions.

        • Well done to Scott Lincoln. He's been plugging away for a while improving bit by bit

              • 6211 from Holly Mills, another excellent performance rewarded with a PB. She finishes 4th so will guarantee some good bonus ranking points. Vidts and Vicente finished ahead of her but are ahead of her in the rankings so it doesn’t make that much difference on that front. Big PB from Zheng

Good considering there were a couple of events below par.

If my calculations are right I now have Holly's World Ranking Score at 1178 up from 1164. That would take her equal with Tyra Gittens who's currently in 23rd. However after her NCAA win I think Gittens score has increased slightly to 1180.  That sums up the issue with rankings, a lower Hep score from Gittens is actually worth more than her score last month of 6418 which was just shy of an auto Q simply because there are more bonus points for NCAA Champs.

Zheng is not currently ranked - I don't know if she has another score to add from elsewhere to get a 'World Ranking' or not as you need 2 in the time period.

To sum up it's complicated but it's going to be close for Holly as to whether she goes or not. And of course there is Rantingen next weekend plus US trials and other national championships.

It may come down to who above her is fit or not. We know Ndama is out for the season with an ACL injury and haven't seen anything yet of Ikauniece or Preiner so not sure of their status.

Also worth noting more generally how World Athletics have really screwed over the Multi Eventers with a measly quota of just 24, the lowest of all events.

I do Ms.Mills a disservice as I didn't realise it was an overal PB, thinking she newded a faster time in the 800. So very well done. With PBs in HJ and JV, its been a good weekend. Getting closer to her indoor season 14m SP would be good, a return to the LJ of old (on her other take off leg), would bring more points, and that 200 looks a little sluggish, if she does manage to get an invite to Tokyo it will be great experience ...

              • Laura Zialor 1.90 PB in HJ today
