More evidence emerged that the Japanese public's opposition to next month's Tokyo Olympics is losing steam, according to a series of media polls published roughly one month before the opening ceremony.
A survey by broadcaster Fuji Television carried out June 19 to 20 found that only 30.5% of the Japanese people said the Olympics should be canceled, compared with 56.6% the previous month. About 35.3% said the competition should be held without spectators, while 33.1% said a limited number of people should be admitted to the venues.
A sense of inevitability over the games has set in since Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga gained the support of U.S. President Joe Biden and other Group of Seven leaders earlier this month. He has been pushing ahead with planning for the global sports spectacle, already delayed by a year because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Teams have begun to arrive in Japan from overseas and the athletes' village was unveiled over the weekend.

The Japanese reaction to Covid and the Olympics seems OTT to me. Their infection and death rates have been extremely low by European or American standards throughout. Let’s see what the experience is like when it happens rather than rubbish it before it starts, though that may break the habit of a lifetime in your case. -
Poor athletes of all sports and pastimes, what are they going to have to put up with , in order to say I am an Olympian. Those Olympic playbooks have a nightmarish quality about them. The Japanese public are right about these Games. -
The whole OG will be poor compared to the brilliantly supported and shown so well OG in London. Hope I am around for Paris 24.Leave a comment:

The coverage of track and field at the Olympics is never as full as at a WC. Too many other sports like climbing, surfing, trick cycling, and other crap, put in the games so a certain country ,who are the IOC money bags, can get even more Gold medals. Add the 8 hour time difference and it will not be an experience to thrill over.Leave a comment:

Eurosport, another company owned by Discovery which together with Sky wants to own the World of pay channels. Wonder if those money grabbing sh*ts will eventually own the BeebLeave a comment:

Which is why I will be watching mostly Eurosport who will be following live action hopefully. -
I actually think it's a bit rubbish all the commentary being done from Salford. Makes sense for the presenters and pundits to be there but I think that quality may suffer with no commentators on site.
Still I suppose it's stopped the Fail running their "BBC sends more people to Olympics than Team GB" schtik.Leave a comment:

Good news is that there will be very fewer annoying trackside interviews as everyone will be stuck in exotic Salford. But Jeanette will do her best to fill the gap!

They'll repeat the pre recorded interviews with athletes even more often than they do usually.Leave a comment:
