Are you ready for another exciting contest, our first track & field one for 17 months?!
There's 3 parts this time, 2 of them familiar to those who've played before. Please note the requested format below for posting your entry - it really does help me zip through tallying the scores if the info is in the same order for all contestants.
For the corresponding contest in Glasgow 2019 we had 10 participants so it would be great to at least match that this time.
In order to accomodate the new element of the contest (Part 3) you'll see that the scoring for Parts 1 & 2 has been tripled.
The Final Entries PDF on the European Athletics website is at https://directus.european-athletics....6-9d41209a67dd (be aware that a few nations including Britain have included their reserves on the lists.)
I have reserved post #2 below for listing any significant Withdrawals. If anyone spots any, please post the info in this thread. I will also endeavour to keep an eye open. Please check this list and, if necessary, amend your contest entry before submitting it.
If you need any clarification on anything, please ask away!
Part 1 - PREDICT THE BRITISH MEDALISTS
Predict which British athletes you think will win medals.
You do not need to specify which colour medal you think they will win but you do need to specify which event they will win a medal in.
For the relay teams, you don't need to name the individual athletes, you just need to say "Great Britain" if you think they will medal.
Scoring
Remember there is some jeopardy involved, so while you will score 3 points for each correct prediction, you will also lose 3 points for each incorrect prediction.
Part 2 - PREDICT THE CHAMPIONS
Predict the champion for each of the 26 events.
Scoring
3 points for each correct prediction; No points are deducted for incorrect predictions.
Part 3 - PREDICT THE WINNING MARKS
Predict the winning mark for each of the 26 events.
Scoring
This will be done on a percentage basis ...
There are 4 points available for each event.
For track events ...
1 point scored if you are within 1% but greater than 0.5% either side of the winning mark
2 points if you are within 0.5% but greater than 0.25% away
3 points if you are within 0.25% away but not exactly correct
4 points for an exact prediction
For field events ...
Scoring is the same but the percentages you can be within are doubled so 1 point = 2% to 1% away; 2 points = 1% to 0.5%; 3 points = within 0.5%; 4 points = exact prediction
Some examples ...
If the Women's 800 is won in 2:00.00 scoring would be as follows:
1 point for a prediction in the 1:58.80 to 1:59.41 range or in the 2:00.61 to 2:01.20 range
2 points for a prediction in the 1:59.40 to 1:59.69 range or in the 2:00.31 to 2:00.60 range
3 points for a prediction in the 1:59.70 to 1:59.99 range or in the 2:00.01 to 2:00.30 range
4 points for 2:00.00 !
If the Men's Long Jump is won in 8.00 scoring would be as follows:
1 point for a prediction in the 8.09 to 8.16 range or in the 7.84 to 7.91 range
2 points for a prediction in the 8.05 to 8.08 range or in the 7.92 to 7.95 range
3 points for a prediction in the 8.01 to 8.04 range or in the 7.96 to 7.99 range
4 points for 8.00 !
TIEBREAKER
There's no tiebreaker this time. I feel confident that Part 3 will bring some separation at the top. But, if there is a tie for first place, all the contestants involved will be awarded the Gold medal.
FORMAT OF YOUR ENTRY
For Part 1, please use the order of events in EA's Final Entries PDF (linked above) but submit all your Women's British medalists first and then your Men's.
For Parts 2 & 3, please combine your predictions in one line, e.g.,
60: Zahi 7.12
400: Sprunger 51.85
...
Again, please use the Final Entries PDF to determine the order of events and again please list all the Women's champions first and then the Men's.
Please check that for Parts 2 & 3 you have listed all 26 events (13 for each gender).
If any athletes in an event share a surname please be clear about which athlete you are choosing.
CLOSING TIME FOR ENTRIES & EDITING YOUR ENTRY
The closing time for your entry is 5.50pm UK time on Thursday 4th March (that's 10 minutes before the first event starts). Up to that point you can edit your team as many times as you wish - please do so by editing your original post if you know how to. That helps me enormously. Edits can not be made after the closing time.
NOTE: If editing more than once, err on the side of caution and leave at least an hour between edits to avoid the forum software flagging your post "Unapproved".
OTHER INFO
If any of your Part 1 predictions is a DNS in your specified event you will not be deducted points for that athlete's failure to medal.
"Halfway" scores will be provided after Saturday's competiton when 12 of the 26 events will have been decided.
I do double-check the scoring but if you think I've still made an error, please do not hesitate to query it.
RECENT PREDICTIONS CONTEST HISTORY
At the 2019 European Indoors contest a first-time player, Joel68, took the Gold medal on the tiebreaker ahead of philipo & treadwater1 who shared the Silver medal. No bronze was awarded due to two Silver medals being handed out.
oxfan & philipo scored most points in Predict the British Medalists and treadwater1 had a clear margin predicting the champions, getting 17 of the 26 correct, 2 more than the next best.
The 2019 Doha contest seems to have disappeared off the forum (remember that about 3 months worth of my posts got deleted by the system?) However, I seem to recall that Joel68 took that one too. Sorry, but I can't recall the other medalists. I haven't seen Joel68 on the forum for ages so I wonder if he'll be back to defend his European Indoor crown this week?

OK, that's enough yakkin', good luck everyone!
