Lynsey Sharp was on the original entry list for Madrid tonight. I don't know what happened with her in 2020.

Niamh Emerson competed in some individual events towards the end of last summer.

Is Prescod that good that he can disappear for 2 years and then run sub 10 in his first race. Yes, he probably is, but his career to date has left me hugely frustrated. I want to see him come out in April/May and run sub 9.90/20.00. He's 25 now, the clock is ticking.

Put it this way: the Americans & Jamaicans at his age run every single race they can get into. Back in the golden days of long ago, Linford Christie & Colin Jackson went to all the televised meets, up to a dozen or more a year. Why? ‘Cos that’s the only way to get paid.

Somehow I doubt lottery-funded masterly inaction is a winning formula.

i would be more than amazed if that guy ever runs 9.90 or 20.00; no chance imo. They said the same things about great possibilities for Dasaolu, the bob sleigh man.

let us not forget that although many great athletes and likely medallists this year competed in 2020, and have already come out to play this year , the coaches of many British athletes are, in my view, guided incorrectly by coaches who think that training is all that matters. sadly it aint;.

Could have mentioned also that all the great East European field event athletes also do all domestic & international meets, Europa Cup, World Student Games......as well as the Majors.

The fact Prescod races sparing is one of his strengths, he isn’t satisfied by being an also ran, he only has eyes for the top prizes. Athletes with that mindset are often the best at peaking when it matters, he thinks like Ohuruogu.

I think quite a few of the athletes mentioned in the original post just had a quiet year last year after realising the main prize was off the table.

Two young athletes that I’ve noticed the absence of since breaking through a few years ago are Dominic Ogbechie and Jona Efoloko. They’ve both struggled with injuries at a crucial time in their careers. Ogbechie is still an u20 so has Nairobi to aim for this year

FYI Ogbechie took part in the recent trial at Lee Valley and jumped 7.46m in LJ.

Prescod changed coaches during the 1st lockdown (or around there) so needed time I guess to get used to his new training programme and environment.

Similar with a few others who were probably planning to change coaches after the olympics took that opportunity with them being cancelled to move earlier if they thought they would then have a better chance this year.

I believe Prescod is now living in Florida and being coached by Grant Holloway's coach Mike Holloway(no relation). I hope he's developed a start like his training partner and is fit and healthy. I'm expecting some early season fireworks from Mr Prescod.

Thanks for the link to that good article. Very positive to see Ms. Emerson with this new set-up. With Holy Mills very likely to rewtire her Hep PB this year it really does bode well for when KJT hangs up her spikes. Will we see all three in a GB vest competing at the same meet, in the same event?
