I am going to ask about KJT and Niamh Emerson ... you know 2 years ago I suggested that we could have three women competing at the Olympics in the Heptathlon; now I am slightly concened that we will have none!Comment
-
KJT apparently is coming back from an Achillies injury she suffered in the indoor season, while Emerson has had a bunch of injuries that she's on the mend from, but is likely not to be fit in time for Tokyo.Comment

my next slight concern .... Amy Hunt. I dont have my own twitter account - but 'researching' she said this of her last race
'terrible season opener. not even close to a true representation of how training’s going. no excuses. just neurally overloaded. now off to the library to write an essay by 2am and back to the drawing board before the next race'
This was the 12th May and the 'next' race hasnt happened yet... first year exams at Uni? Even so, the tweet leaves me a little concerned...Comment

Also, entered in the 5000 is Jo Pavey !!Comment

Looking at accepted entries for the British trials in a little over 2 weeks and good to see Prescod has accepted for the 100 and NMB for the 200. Be interesting to see what form Prescod brings following relocation to the US to train with Grant Holloway's group.Comment

Jo Pavey's still there though!Comment

Haven’t seen the elusive James Whiteaker for a while, but he does seem to have accepted his invite for the British Champs.
Had high hopes after he threw 77 as an 18 year old. Marginal PB in one of his 2 appearances last year. Would be great to see him kick on.Comment

Was looking for news on the Hyltons and pulled up this thread. Does anyone know if Shannon is permanently retired?Comment

Cheriece injured herself in the 400m at Manchester a few weeks back after a really promising 200m where she looked like she was returning to fine form. She has been injury plagued for some years. Shannon hasn't competed since 2019. -
Since 2019, goodness! I guess that's that then. Thanks re Cheriece -
Cheriece Hylton ran 55.43 a couple of weeks ago. Three seconds off her best but good to see her running.

Always wondered what happened to some of the promising young talents that set records as juniors but nowhere to be seen as seniors, like David Omoregie and Shona Richards.Comment

Here’s what I’ve been doing for the last 3 months. At the end of April, I got a stress fracture in training, which stopped my preparations for the upcoming season and ultimately, my chances of quality for, and competing at the the Tokyo Olympics. This set back has hurt the most.
Quite frankly Tokyo 2020 wasn’t meant to be for me, though I believe I am and will be stronger and better for it. We’ve used this time to restart, work harder and smarter, and at this point, it’s Niamh 4.0👍 1Comment

Jeeze, Niamh's origin story is becoming more and more like Jessica Ennis-Hill's by the moment... Both won major junior championship titles (Niamh, the 2018 World U20's, Ennis-Hill, the 2005 European Juniors); both have had senior success as juniors/U23's (Niamh won bronze at the 2018 Commonwealth Games while still a junior, then won Pentathlon silver behind KJT at the 2019 European Indoors. Ennis-Hill won a bronze medal at the 2005 Summer Universiade, a month after her European Junior victory. She then won a bronze at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, before finishing a creditable 8th in the European Championships. Jess followed this up by finishing 4th at the 2007 World Championships, still aged 21.)
And now Niamh suffered a serious injury setback in the year of the Olympics, as Ennis-Hill did 13 years ago before Beijing.
It would be quite something if Emerson's career path continued to mirror that of her current mentor.....
