Conveniently Sheffield is fairly local to Niamh's home in Derbyshire.

Scanning through the weekend results from the US - I noticed Tim duckworth has competed in the Shot and achieved a PB 13.84, (Huskey Classic - Seattle) ...

Does anyone know the intentions of Ada'ora Chigbo - a couple of seasons back I really thought she would be someone to watch in the Hep but now limits her appearances to HJ - and not anywhere close to her PB set back then - is she just seeing her way through college on a sport's scholarship?

Ada'ora probably picked the wrong USA university, which is an issue if athletes take the first offer or only offer and don't do their research. New Mexico women seem to compete in a limited number of events compared to most other programmes (listed below). She only did multi-events in her first year there and since, just HJ. Shame, had potential.

sorry, Lovesprints1, I seemed to have missed your reply about Ms. Chigbo - I do hope then perhaps once her college studies are finished she might find her way back to Hep, great potential, and rather different to our other talented multi eventers as a thrower who could jump...

Meanwhile, I noted on another thread I am a little nervous about Niamh Emerson, ... not even a little try out in javelin in local event on a weeday evening and hasnt actually competed a Hep since 2018 ... having said that, KJT, who i read had hada an injury of some kind, also hasnt turned up for a low key French meet yet, as has been her way in recent years ...

I also am getting a little pensive for one or two others ... no show from Daniel Rowden yet, and some of the male sprinters are taking their time, Gemili, and Prescod mentioned in the list below (first posted back in March) though NMB has run in the states ...

I think KJT's injury was quite bad and she missed a fair amount of training so I'm not that surprised she hadn't competed yet. Tim Duckworth has been competing in the US but hasn't exactly been setting the world alight.

There have been relatively few competitions in the UK so far.

How about the Hylton sisters? Some twitter activity but fashion related but during training? Rivals to the Nilsons?
        What about Maya Bruney

Maya Bruney transferred allegiance to Italy and has been eligible since February.

Thank you Miles, for that information, any link/details as to why? Fiona May didn't do too bad with the same change. I would note, if it were a young talent in football, , such a transfer would be all over the back pages.

Her mother's Italian. Maybe it was a sentimental decision.

Mid May and still no sightings of the Lord Lucan of British Athletics, Reece Prescod. 23 months since he last competed, 40 days until the Olympic Trials, 75 days till the Olympic 100m is meant to start, and nada.

He'll come out of nowhere i'm sure. Transitioned over to the states and probably wants to hit the 'perfect race'

As miles pointed out earlier, Maya Bruney has indeed joined the Italian athletics federation earlier this year. I just went to her Twitter page and the pinned tweet at the top of the thead is of her confirming her switch.

Good luck to her and I hope she has much better fortune in terms of injuries than she's had in the last 3 years or so.

And as luck would have it

Expecting Lynsey Sharp wants to show her baby a mother can still "achieve amazing things" after giving birth.

I saw Cheriece Hylton run a 39.5 300m at Bromley last night. I believe that's her first race in 3 years. To put the time in proper perspective, the rain was biblical and it was 8-9 degrees. Without knowing initially who she was, my daughter, also competing last night, was really star struck ("She looks amazing - must be a professional"). It's hard to understate the motivational impact top athletes have on kids when they turn up at Open Meets and League fixtures. I imagine it will be a long journey back but we'll look out for her results.

What a good bit of information and I wish Ms. Hylton and your daughter a great season. I read on this forum that another hitherto MIA, Daniel Rowden, is on the start list for Doha... now where is Niamh Emerson!

39.5 isn't fantastic but it's a start - hopefully she stays injury-free and gets a decent 400m in this year. It's funny how the Hylton twins were the ones who made a bigger splash when younger, and now it is the Nielsens who are both likely to go to Tokyo.

EDIT: And for context, she was 1.4s ahead of an athlete who has run 56.70 this year, so that suggests something like 55-flat shape. It's a start.

A couple of really promising U20s ran in the W400s later - the Agyei-Kyem sisters from Walton AC - they were respectively 4 and 6 seconds off their PBs. Just another indicator of how horrible the weather was!

            • #29
Mysterybrick. Note the weather conditions as mentioned by Sovietvest.. Rainy and cold. Would be faster in warmer and dryer conditions.........Surprised she ran at all in those conditions given its a long time since we heard from her.........great to see her back!

Well, the question was asked here about where Sophie Hitchon had been... and via the AW Twitter feed, I've just found out that.... she's announced her retirement from athletics.

It seems that the troubles she was having with her throwing technique in 2018 and there after, were too much to overcome and the corrective measures she tried to rectify them (ending her 2019 season early to try and figure things out) were not successful.
