Yep Holly in 5th, just 1 point behind Lagger in 4th. Lagger has a slightly better 800 PB but with Holly's improving all the time it should be a good battle. Kate O'Connor looks good for 3rd and a new Irish record. Martha Koala vs Maria Vicente for the win. Good bounce back performance from Vicente after 3 no jumps in the LJ at Euro Indoors.

Holly Mills wins the 800m in a new pb of 2:10.84

She ends up with a new PB points total of 6180, her first time breaching the 6000 point barrier. She finishes in 4th place overall, behind winner Maria Vicente, Kate O'Conner and Marth Koala, all of whom end up breaking their respective national records.

(Edit: With that result, Mills goes to 8th on the UK all time list in the heptathlon, and the only ones on that list to get a better score in the U-23 age group are KJT, JEH, Denise Lewis and Judy Simpson, all of whom would go on to be either Olympic or World champions, British record holders, or medalists at continental and Commonwealth level.)

Holly needs to work on her javelin, but that's actually a really promising performance. She had almost the lowest PB going into the competition.

A promising weekend for Holly, if she can work on her javelin she has some real potential in the multi events.

Seriously though, what is it about Great Britain and producing world class heptathletes? Soon we'll get the well deserved reputation Germany has at producing really good Decathletes! (And heptathletes too!)

If Holly is scoring over 6100 points with a 30m javelin, lord knows what she can do with some KJT-like improvements to it! A 40m javelin result today (which would still be regarded as only a "fair" distance would have her pushing over 6400.... and combine that with a more typical to her abilities long jump, rather than the slightly below-par 6.15m she achieved today would be taking Holly into the 6500-6600 point range.... (Another!) scarely good British female multi-eventer!

*And* we're still waiting to see the return of still-reigning World Junior champ Niamh Emerson and what her partnership with Toni Minichello will produce!

In fact, there was the very *real* prospect that with more favourable winds yesterday, Mills could have gone very close to sub-13 seconds for the 100m hurdles and sub-24 seconds for the 200m.... Combine that with what she did today and that's a 6200-6300 score easy... with a poor javelin result!

Great performance from Holly...and I'm pretty sure she & her team are not oblivious to the Javelin 'weakness'. Let's see where she is at the business end of the season but don't expect miracles and remember she had never thrown the Javelin before 2019.

Koala only ran 2.25 in the 800, the win came down to a battle between Kate O'Connor and Maria Vicente. The latter just pipped the Irishwoman but both set PBs.

U23 Tara Simpson-Sullivan has made some strong improvements in the hammer - setting lots of pbs this year, best of 68.91 the other day which is 4th on the British all time list, up from a best of 59.71 in 2019.

U23 Tara Simpson-Sullivan has made some strong improvements in the hammer - setting lots of pbs this year, best of 68.91 the other day which is 4th on the British all time list, up from a best of 59.71 in 2019.

We may bemoan the current lack of talent in some of the heavy throw disiplines in Great Britain (especially javelin which has been frankly a joke in this country since Backley and Sayers retired), yet in events like the Hammer both men and women's side of it seem to be really competitive and pushing each other to respectable distances, and with good strength in depth through the age catergories too.

Well done to Tara Simpson-Sullivan on her recent improvements! Could she breach the 70 meter barrier before the year is out?
