To lead the competition at the end of day 1 is impressive, you’d expect Kate O’Connor to challenge her tomorrow with her big javelin and Koala, Hawkins and Vicente have good second days. There are a lot of bonus ranking points up for grabs so it should be an entertaining battle tomorrow. Kate O’Connor is on for a very good score too +123 currently on her Boras score

And thus Britain's proud tradition in the women's multi events continues.... Can Holly Mills break 6000 points in this event? Any sort of half decent jav throw from her (36 meters and beyond), combined with a good long jump and she'll get there I think.

Kate O'Connor is going to be a consistently good heptathlete through career too. A bit more basic speed and she'll be a regular finisher in the top 10 at the very least. Will she end up as a more mobile and flexible version of the fine multi-eventer from Lithuania during Jess Ennis' era, Austra Skujyte? Could throw the shot put and absolute mile (I believe she holds the outright world heptathlon best in the shot) and was a 50m+ javelin athlete, but a lack of flat speed, a medicore at best long jump, and plodding 800m usually prevented her from truly being a great (though she would be upgraded to a brone medal at the 2012 Olympics following the disgraced Russian Tatyana Chernova having her silver medal stripped from her as the severity and scale of the Russian state doping scandal became truly known)

Great first day for Holly. Worth remembering that this is only her THIRD Heptathlon. She was also a bit unfortunate in terms of headwinds in both sprint races so more to come there later in the season. There is quite a good competition brewing for the top placings which provide the all important World Rankings bonus points - I spect there are a few of them who could score in/around 6200. Holly will lose ground in the Javelin but her 800 is very good and her LJ at present is solid by her standards (I think I have picked up on social media that she has made some technical changes to her LJ). I think we also need to be a bit patient regarding her Javelin, she hadn't thrown before 2019 & I for one have far too much respect for Javelin throwers to think it's an event that can be mastered in a couple of years, especially when you're training for 6 other events. I think if she's throwing high 30 metres by the end of the season that's a great result at this stage.

if she achieves close to her pb in the long jump and javelin plus runs about 2.14 ish in the 800 which is about 2 seconds slower than her indoor pb shes on for 6200, improvements in the javelin and long jump could see her hitting 6300

Cindy Sember won at Drake Relays, 12.57 (PB?) from Christina Clemons. Tiff Porter 3rd, 12.80. Keni Harrison crashed out at the 2nd hurdle.

Alison dos Santos (BRA) very impressive winning the 400H in 48.15 PB.

A new name in the W 1500, Josette Norris (USA) won in 4:06.17 PB beating Rachel Schneider & Shannon Osika.

I'd forgotten how painful it is to watch US athletics TV broadcasts - startlists put up during mid-distance races, quite poor commentary and ad breaks every 6 or 7 minutes. At one point there was 3 minutes between ad-breaks (!) that sandwiched a puff piece on Dawn Harper-Nelson making her comeback.

14:52.44 for Eilish McColgan winning the 5000 in Eugene. Abbey Cooper (nee D'Agostino) 2nd in 15:13 and Amy-Eloise Markovc 3rd in15:17.
