    re commentators getting names wrong - it can always be worse. I was watching some swimming earlier where both commentator and co-commentator were making a swimmer called Jay Lelliot become Jay Elliot...

    A slight mispronunciation is one thing, but depriving the poor bloke of a letter in his name completely seems a bit hard.

      Well, that's track and field over for another year, save for some events like the Japanese Corporate Championships (next weekend), the Southeast Asian Games and South/Pan American age group championships.

      So, who's sticking around to keep me company for the Road and Cross Country seasons?

      I'm really looking forward to the new WA Cross Country Tour. It should be a real boost for international Cross Country which appeared to be being left to wither on the vine. So far there's 19 meetings - https://www.worldathletics.org/compe...ate=2022-04-01 - and at least 3 more to be added (in N America, Asia & Oceania). All, by the terms of the regulations, should be live streamed and the Gold meetings will be live streamed on the World Athletics YouTube channel.

      The prime candidates for Gold meeting status are probably Atapuerca, Italica, Campaccio, Elgoibar & Cinque Mulini and I'd imagine that WA will want a couple of Gold meetings outside Europe as well.

      So, what with other good meetings also being live streamed such as Castellon, Valladolid, the Spanish & Italian Championships and the European Championships, we could have 25+ Cross Country meetings being live streamed this winter! And that's not even counting NCAA Cross Country - various conference championships at the end of October and the "finals" in November.

        We give World Athletics a lot of stick but whoever is in charge of classifying, cataloguing & grouping together disparate meets is doing a lot of work. This weekend sees the debut of the new Elite Platinum Marathon series, starting a sequence of at least one big-name marathon per week from now until the end of October. First up, the classic WR, NR & PB-chasing course around Berlin. No doubt LS will soon be explaining how you can hack into NASA to watch it.

              Just watched the 74th Giro Al Sas, one of those 'laps around the old town' races they do so well in Italy and Switzerland particularly. It was a very good TV broadcast.

              Trento (in the Trentino-Sudtirol region of Northern Italy) looks lovely with all its old buildings, cobbled streets and statues. I spotted a nice bar too down one of the streets!

              Not the fastest of 10km courses - on flat cobbles all the way with a lot of turns - but there was a good four-way battle at the front with Muktar Edris ultimately succeeding in 28:14, two seconds ahead of Yassin Haji. Edris has run the race 7 times (he said in his interview) and has now won it 4 times.

              The Trento Running Festival continues tomorrow with the Trento Half Marathon at 9am, also live on the same regional TV channel.

                Trento is famous in history for being the location of the Council of Trent in the 16th century, where the Catholic Church responded to the Reformation by reforming itself in the Counter-Reformation.

              WORLD RECORD!!!

              In Geneva, Kalkidan Gezahegne ran 29:35 (I think) to break the 29:43 WR for 10km.

              Kibiwott Kandie won the men's race in 26:48.

              Earlier in Valencia, Margaret Kipkemboi ran 29:51 approx, Norah Jeruto approx 30:08.

                Ridiculous!

                Silas Too (KEN) won this morning's Eindhoven Marathon in 2:06:32 PB and sank to his knees in exhaustion. Then literally no more than 4 seconds after he'd crossed the line the TV reporter shoved a microphone in his face and asked, "How do you feel?" After Silas muttered something the reporter turned to the camera and probably said something like, "Let's give him a bit of time to catch his breath. Back to you guys".
                LOL, what did she expect?!

                Pretty deep marathon with 5 coming in under about 2:07:15.

                Over in the rain at the Sofia Marathon, Militsa Mircheva missed equalling the Bulgarian NR by an agonising ONE SECOND, running 2:35:03. If you remember the very icy European XC Championships in 2014 she finished 2nd in the U23 race behind Rhona Auckland. Tubay Erdal (TUR) had a very impressive last 2km or so to win in 2:34:30 PB. The African challenge fell away, including pre-race favourite Naom Jebet (2:27 PB).

                At the 4 Mijl de Groningen Tom Mortimer was 6th (?) in approx 18:12, behind winner Rogers Kibet (UGA), 17:25.

                Eva Cherono won the women's race in 19:15 approx with Izzy Fry 3rd (?) in around 20:49.

                  "This is the women's leader. What do we call her?" ... Pause ... I was waiting with baited breath for him to really nail the pronunciation of Chepngetich ... but no, he proceeded to really butcher it! Something like Kip-ne-tetch.

                    Lots of big positive splits in the Women's race at Chicago! Ruth Chepngetich ran 67:43 / 74:48 to win in 2:22:31. Emma Bates was the only woman in the Top 20 to negative split (72:27 / 71:53) and as a result rose from 5th to 2nd in the second half of the race and ran a 1m 7s PB, 2:24:20.
                    Sixth place for Rosie Edwards in a 1m 39s PB, 2:30:17, which will qualify her for the Comm Games & Euro Champs.

                    In the Men's race an Ethiopian made it 3 out of 3 for them in this Autumn's majors with Seifa Tura winning in 2:06:14. Rupp was 2nd and only 5 men broke 2:10.

                      Apparently, Rupp's run pretty much books his place in the US team for the Worlds next year in his Eugene back yard.

                    To be fair, he butchered the names of all the other Kenyan too. He also kept referring to someone called ‘Roop’. The Aussie co-commentator was just as bad. I don’t recall worse commentating on a proper TV station since Channel 4 did the Daegu World Champs.
                    At the end one of them said Sara Hall had smashed her PB. I particularly enjoyed one of them calling Dickson Coumba “The man, the myth, the legend”. Did he confuse him with Kipchoge?

                      Dreadful and shocking news about Agnes Tirop. Just 10 days ago I was watching her compete in the Geneva 10k.
