Unsurprisingly Sha'Carri wasn't at all race fit. But as a forum we also need to remember tha she is young - just 21. She is no less arrogant than Ingebritsen, who I don't hear you complain about in the same way. I like the fact she has a personality. Too many of the young athletes are so media trained they are sanitised and frankly boring. Love her or hate her SR brings energy to the track and I'm sure she'll be backing up her confidence with her performances over the next few years.Comment

No less (more??) arrogant than Ingebrigtsen? Hmmm ... He's got an air of huge confidence but we don't hearing him running his mouth off at every opportunity and denigrating his opponents. Hopefully after this humbling Richardson will learn to control her mouth a bit. -
There's a difference being confident in oneself, and dissing others (with or without being able to back it up).

For me that performance by Thompson Herah was a WR , not that so called wind free 10.49 by a doper of renown. People at trackside the day of her 10.49 know that the wind was present with the flags very strongly indicating the wind was not 0.0 which is very rare.Well done to the Olympic champion.The IAAF supposedly had an examination of this 10.49 but the USATF did their usual bullying act. and insisted that they were correct. The wind gauge did not work.About as much belief in the veracity of that 100m as I have in a stack of 1987/1988 East European WR performances which have lasted over 30 years and probably another few decades yet.Comment

Loved that Women's steeplechase. If Kazakhstan can sort out the paperwork they have themselves a new star! Really chuffed for Courtney Frerichs going sub-9.
Athing Mu is a class apart. But this is my worry for the Women's 800 & 1500 over the next few years - that they'll become one-woman shows and very predictable (what with Kipyegon too).
Still, I didn't think I'd ever seen a woman go through 600m of an 800 in 1:24.44 before and so I checked video of Kratochvilova's 1:53.28 & Olizarenko's 1:53.43 ... And Kratoch went through in approx 1:25.4 and Olizarenko in 1:24.8.Comment

I can't believe that someone actually tried to defend Sha'Carri's tactless, rude and spitefully juvenile post race interview.... Ingebrigtsen, as you rightly pointed out Ladyloz , is the reigning Olympic and European champion over 1500 m. He can come off as a cocky so-and-so sometimes, but he's actually backed up his big talk with results.
Yes, Richardson wasn't in Tokyo and was unlucky to miss out, but to then have the race she just had (similar to a couple of other occasions in fact, post her 10.75 run in the 2019 NCAA's at the US Trials, and when she was beaten by Dina in the sodden conditions of Gateshead earlier this year), and then give *that* interview, after you been smoked by the world's best 100 m sprinters, AND watched Thompson-Herah take your stadium record and came closer than any women in history to Flo-Jo's seemingly unobtainable WR.... I would have been advised to be a LOT more circumspect in how you conduct an after-race interview.
She's needs to get her head in the race game, fast.Comment

Undeniably correct in my view, and like a few posters on TF Forum I wonder about her mental state ; Richardson may blow up completely or grow up in the next couple of years, but at this time she is indicating a rather silly and juvenile behavioural pattern and probably ignoring some advice she is getting from those around her. Many considered her probable freshness, uninterrupted training and competing in her own backyard would help.Clearly not. The Jamaicans must be very contented..
What is clear, as we mostly knew before this rather hyped up meet, was that most athletes would be still recovering from the OG and feeling the effects of travel and mental post OG effects.
Great stuff from less than a handful of athletes who transcended my general thoughts, but in the middle distance and longer events this week end most of the athletes of high quality came for the money and DL points, in my view. After all why would a bunch of tired athletes schlep halfway round the globe otherwise.
..Both on Friday and Saturday many fine athletes could not follow exceptional lead outs; e.g. Hassan and a bunch of East Africans on Friday and in the men's mile, the women's 800m and 1500m plus the steeplechase yesterday , the performances clearly indicated post OG symptoms.
I suspect you will see after next years WC exactly the same up and down results, with the following CG and Europeans offering some comfort from perceived failures or further confirmation of their capabilities.
Noticeable that the winner of the 3K steeplechase was fresher than the other Olympic competitors as she was not in Tokyo, but a very fine performance by Frerichs, all things considered.
Since the comments indicate posters are generally agreed on the highs and lows of this meet, i must express surprise and disappointment at attendance of spectators which may have had a Covid effect. The statements from fans in the States that support at Hayward would result in almost a full house turned out to be incorrect. I was surprised at so called Tracktown that the over rated flash 12,500 seater stadium had large numbers of empty green seats , not just on the upper tiers, but plenty of the same on the lower tier seats; also, I saw shots of some spectators who seemed far from the action from across a large grassed area.
Roll on to Budapest for a well attended WC in 2023.!! Made me appreciate the London DL meets support somewhat.
The commentaries were not impressive and it was unforgiveable for experienced commentators to over look the wind readings, as referred to above.Comment

One of the most impressive things with Crouser is his consistency. Just like Tokyo he managed a full card with no fouls this time averaging 22.77 just a few cm down on Tokyo and presumably the 2nd greatest series ever. Post Doha he really has mastered the event.
Wouldn’t bet against him winning a 3rd Olympic title in Paris and barring injury his first world title next year looks a formality.Comment
