22.19 and 22.41 in the semis for Masilingi and Mboma in the 200 semis. Way way ahead of the other girls apart from Favour Ofili of Nigeria (22.37). Could be an interesting final.

Could be a decent decathlon waiting to come out one day.Comment

Swiss TV have clearly been learning at The School of Gabby. So far, no field events coverage inbetween track events, just trackside chat.
The major stories so far ... Jessie Knight 54.25 PB just ahead of Sprunger SB.
Rowden DNF at 500m when sitting about 5th. No idea why. He didn't look injured.Comment

1.45.8 for Piers Copeland just behind Saruni, with Pattison in third in 1.46.0. Some decent scalps in Kramer and Farken. It speaks volumes that lads who'd be peripheral finalists at a full strength trials are beating the best other European nations have to offer - So much middle distance talent in GB.Comment

10.54 for ETH.
Repeat of the Olympic 1-2-3 and Shacarri Richardson nowhere. So much for her getting her revenge on not going to Tokyo.Last edited by Occasional Hope; 21-08-21, 21:50.👍 1Comment

I don't see either of those two as 'shocking' - they are both class athletes at the top of their game benefitting from great conditions, new technology and essentially 18 months of solid training leading into this year.👍 1Comment

If they were athletes coming from nowhere, it would be shocking. But we're talking about the Rio 100m champ in 10.71 and the existing hurdles WR holder. If they are on form, fit etc they should be improving their times and with the other factors I mentioned it's not that surprising. Clearly the tech is helping across the board.
I'm not disputing the unknown about testing but considering that we're seeing faster times from a range of athletes from a range of counties (including GB) I'm inclined to believe, right now, that it is more technical doping than anything else, until we get evidence to the otherwise. -
Fair enough, Marra.
I consciously try to remain realistic when watching sport, and that does tend to lead itself into being overly sceptical at times, but I also think a lot of people on here go out of their way to avoid something that we all know: Cheating in sport is rife, and always has been, and covid was a godsend for anybody prepared to cheat to win - If somebody was ever going to cheat, it'll have been during covid. -
45.94 from Warholm was shocking, anyone saying otherwise is, in my opinion, loopy. No-one could have predicted that time.
10.54 is slightly shocking but a little less so given how good she looked in Tokyo.
