McSweyn & Hoare would probably prefer it fast, Edwards probably slower at the start with a hard run for home about 600 out.
Arguably the fastest trio from one country, Lucky, in the world. McSweyn is an admirable brave athlete; Hoare's early season was most impressive and Edwards may well be effective in a slower race. The USA reps will be praying for a slow pace, and no doubt happy that the current 1500m WC will not be there.

Delighted by the way for McSweyn . He is clearly in extremely good form and represents what is sadly rare in modern times : a male Australian track performer with at least a chance of pushing for an Olympic medal. Days of Elliott , Doubell , etc long past... Not saying he will win one - tough event. But he has to be in the mix.
Have the Kenyans made a mistake by not taking Cheruyiot; was he fully fit at their Trials??

The Kenyans made a huge mistake by not selecting Cheruiyot. It was purely a political move by the Kenya selection committee. They wanted to send a message to Cheruiyot and his surrounding people. Fitness isn't an issue at all. Cheruiyot ran 3:30 in his very first race of the season this year in Doha. In the past, he has complained about altitude sickness, and how he doesn't function well at high altitude. I hope Cheruiyot runs 3:27 this year, and embarrasses the hell out of the Kenya selection committee, a group that is drunk on power. They had a chance to do the right thing. But they completely dropped the ball and made the wrong decision.

Sounds as though Cheruyiot could be back in after all.

      • Terrific/amazing/bonkers fields for the Gyulai István Memorial on Tuesday which are summarised at https://forum.trackandfieldnews.com/...3%A1n-memorial . The OP ommitted the distance races though, so I added them 2 posts below.

The Aussies are the key to Jakob getting gold. I don't see him winning in a slow race or one where he makes a 800m run for home - too many people are close enough to him in ability to sit and kick past in the last 50 (from our two, to Hoare to Lewandowski). However, McSweyn knows that both Hoare and Edwards can outkick him and I believe if he's in the final he'll run it like the Aussie Champs - eyeballs out from the gun. That will be a gift to Jakob, who would take it on from around 500 - 400m out. In a sit and kick race it's a lottery.

She’s astonishing isn’t she? She should at least get a medal

          • Good to see Valerie Adams back.

Lordy, blanket finish in the 400m.

            • A thoroughly enjoyable meeting in Stockholm.

Femke Bol ... Wow! The T&FN'ers will have to reassess their notion that the USA have the Tokyo gold and silver wrapped up. What a time for Anna Ryzhykova too!

Brilliant time for Keely Hodgkinson. Rose Mary Almanza & Natoya Goule have given Mu something to think about. I wonder what Almanza can do in Tokyo? Despite all her fast times since 2015 she's never put it together in a global championships.

Big PB in the 800 for Adrian Ben, 1.44.18, taking 0.8s off his PB and going #4 on the all-time Spanish list.

Nicola McDermott and her notebook ... geeky but I like it!

The bromance continues in the Pole Vault. Is there anything these guys wouldn't do for each other?!

              • Boy, would i laugh if Bol beat the great Americans in Tokyo. Great run by Bol!!!! and Little and Rhyzkova.
Excellent meet already; pleased to see Mihambo improving but that run up needs further work. great runs by our 800m guys, but we have so many top 800m males; wish it could be spread amongst a few other events.
Keely ran a fine PB and will know how tough 3 rounds will be at Tokyo. She will, one hopes, improve year on year till Paris 24 when she will still be a young athlete.
Cheruyiot had a fine last 150 metres ; hope he goes in the team, but??
Has Ujah got quite enough for a place in the final in Tokyo. Tough call.
Well done to Archie Davis; next years 800m top guys for the WC will be just as tough as this year.
                Roll on next Friday..

Hope Bol is on her inside in the final; not too fast or Bol could do a McMaster.!

Have you noticed that DAS is hardly tearing up the tracks especially in the 200m;Hope that her deliberate under running works for her.

She’s been a wee bit injury prone in the past so maybe that’s why?

She had the second best time in the World before US and Jamaican trials! 22.06... why do people keep forgetting this?!

True, they love each other .. .. .. .. but not as much as Tim Hutchings loves all of them. He's got a big man crush on Kendricks especially.

                    • Well, done Keeley. She's now third all time UK 800m. I'm not trying to wish my life away BUT roll on next Summer!! And, Keeley will be only 23 at the 2024 games.

                      • nobody has forgotten DAS; she as a matter of fact she has hardly stepped on a track this year; She had to run the Trials.
She has run one 200m and avoided contact with a number of 200m athletes. I do not care one way or the other, but in Olympic year one expects slightly more competitions.Savona and Florence only.
In the 100m, the Gateshead" winter" meet and not much else.
Very sparing meets against top non domestic.competition in the last 4 weeks. Part of her coaches plan which may or may not turn out to be the right approach.Time will tell.

                          8 races starting 13th May.
                          Savona, Gateshead, Hengelo, Florence, Manchester.

                          Seems about right.

By this time in 2019 she had run four races.
                          In 2017 only the trials.

                      • i see that in 2019 a very long season admiitedly , DAS ran several Diamond League meets; ran Pre in early May, and also Brum, Zurich, Doha in May.
