    races. Those one off DL fast races that cause little short of hysteria here are worth fiddly squat compared to a few medals in globals

    I never said they had NO medal winning sprinters, I said that they were not consistently winning medals pre 2000 with anything like the frequency that they have done since. Likewise with the East african nations in middle/long distance.

    If I'm wrong, presumably you can show the data that shows that there has not been a dramatic increase in medal winning from those regions in those events over the last 20 years, compared with prior to that.

    Also, if I'm wrong that many of our all time UK top 10s are either active now or recently retired (ie have retired since last Olympics), please show the data that shows that. It should be easy to prove as well.

    I'll give you a heads up though. I'm not wrong about either.

      93.59 from Vetter. The only time he’s been sub 91 this year was a gentle 87 opener in Feb. Class apart.

        I think so, just because there are two guys who have thrown 22.91 and 22.90 around in the Shot.

        Agree with MysteryBrick. If Crouser is slightly under par, he comes within range of what Kovacs and Walsh have done. If Vetter is slightly below par, someone else will have to improve quite a bit to beat him.

      I’d assumed that Allman’s 70.01 would have put her at the top of the wDT rankings. But I’d completely missed a 70.22 from Dutch youngster Jolinde van Klinken. Looks like the wind was howling but that still has to be harnessed.

      On the men’s side it’s not often that 70.35 is only good enough for 2nd place, but that’s what happened to Kristjan Ceh who lost out by 20 cm to Stahl.

      On the runway Walcott has finally remembered how to throw, launching a 89.12 effort although 2nd place in the rankings is taken by Krukowski (he of the Gateshead hat) with a Polish record of 89.55.

        A lot of our sprinters are spending an increasing amount of time across the pond with wonder coaches, facilities etc: are you stating they are all un talented compared to the Americans,. if not why no comparable NCAA s

          Thought Phillipo couldn't have put it better.

          There are too many head in the sand fans .
          some of the performances and beyond belief and can't just be credited to hard work and good coaches ...... some additional ingredients into the mix .

            I do think - and in fact said it elsewhere - that it's difficult to entirely trust all American performances at the minute.They currently have their best m100m runner sitting out a ban, as did his predeccesor twice, arguably their best female hurdler is appealing against a ban, their 200m F 21.6 runner just evaded a ban last year, you have their best middle distance woman sitting out, with her coach claiming to never have heard of nandrolone? And that's just off the top of my head.

            There are other factors explaining Amercian dominance - weather, NCAA system, etc, but I don't think it's unreasonable to suspect some performances as well.

              Well it was meant to be agreeing with Gully agreeing with you! When there keeps being smoke in the air it’s reasonable to suspect there’s a fire or two alight. I would say I don’t think it’s all Americans - I have huge respect for Felix, Mu’s progression seems reasonable, others. Adore Noah lyles. But Im not going to trust by default.

            The Americans have indicated once again this year and others that they have no respect for the rules of athletics, doping issues, decency or protocol ; all they obsess about as ever is winning( its their frigging culture or DNA), no matter cover ups or anything else.
            Anyone following their college system knows what goes on in the States; nothing new for me . i recall the seventies ,the eighties and now over the recent issues.. Only the naive deny.
            Travis Tygart, that cynical shit, knows all the deceit and secret cover ups that the Yanks attempted over Houlihan and they are represented in the short hurdles with another illegal, McNeal.

            Men’s 800 in Monaco looks like a dress rehearsal for the Olympic final, cannot wait. Women’s looks very strong too. Benjamin vs Warholm in the hurdles, could be a special night

              Yes there's a few dress rehearsals at Monaco. The women's PV includes Nageotte, Sidorenko, Bradshaw , Morris etc.
