Great time for Marc Scott and congrats to Sovietvest - almost spot on with his prediction! A huge Thai NR for Kieran Tuntavaite too, 27:17 !

In the women's, Eilish McColgan was 3rd in 30:58.94 - #5 UK all-time, just a second or so behind Mum now!

I was a bit surprised with Elise Cranny in that race, winner in 30:47 from Karissa Schweizer, 30:47 (last 3000 in 8:51). I didn't think that Cranny would have that pace in the 2nd half of the race. Very pleased for Emily Infeld getting the Oly Standard and a 31:08 PB after all her recent injury woes and surgery.

That's 12 American women now who have the Olympic standard in the 10,000 ! And maybe 1 or 2 more to come at the Texas event next weekend?

Tuntavaite's PB is massive, but good to see a Thai athlete going so well.

The subject currently running rampant on their message boards about rumours and gossip from athletes, ex-athletes, coaches and officials are not based on factual and proper evidence and will never be challenged satisfactorily.
Who, pray, gave you their anonymous evidence, rather than rumours, about brit runners of the 80s and 90s and also clinics and drugs that you have referred to; there is not the vestige of info that would hold up in court, but the nutters dont care about such things; a bit of envy, jealousy is so much easier to spout than hard based evidence.
Yes we all know that there were some miscreants in the British athletic fraternity; but the very fact of being on the MB of Letsrun looking at the endless accusations every time someone bursts forth in those countries that take doping seriously is beyond pathetic and sad.
Sage advice, Philipo regarding avoiding the LR MB. It irritates me however when some of the Brit posters, who are so quick to accuse other nations, are totally blind to the rumours about plenty of our former greats. And they come across so condescending!!

the difficulty for Scott, i suspect, is competing many times in the States over the next couple of months is likely that he will find a June trials in the UK may be a tad more difficult than he thinks.

I'd actually say he will be a class above in the UK trials - it is when people are closing a 13:05 pace race in 1:55 it will be tough...

              WORLD RECORD!

At today's Chinese Winter Race Walking Championships in Huangshan 2 women went under Liu Hong's 20km WR 1:24:38, including Hong herself.

But ... Hong is no longer the WR-holder, that title now belongs to the 2017 World champ Yang Jiayu who walked 1:23:50 (unofficial).

              Unofficial times:
              1 Yang Jiayu 1:23:50 WR
              2 Liu Hong 1:24:27 PB
3 Qieyang Shenjie aka "The Tibetan" sub-1:24:55 PB (the broadcast didn't show her crossing the line)

              Yang Jiayu's 5km splits:
              20:56
              20:56
              20:52
              21:06

There were lots of zeroes on the giant cheques that the medalists received at the medal ceremony! ... Given that very few people use cheques anymore, how long do you think it will be in athletics before the symbolic big cheque is ditched in favour of another more modern symbol?

In Dresden today Fabienne Schlumpf improved her Swiss Half Marathon NR by 11 seconds to 68:27. That places her joint 13th on the European all-time list, just behind Charlotte Purdue.

A good warm-up for her Marathon debut in 2 weeks' time at the Swiss Championships (with international guests also).

The British Olympic Trials for the Marathon & 20km Race Walk are early tomorrow morning at Kew Gardens, live streaming on YouTube with Tim Hutchings & Mara Yamauchi commentating. The 20km Race Walks are at 6am and the Marathons at 8am.

Not very deep fields for the Marathons I'm afraid. In the Men's Ben Connor is the only one with the Olympic standard and looks a good bet to finish Top 2 and book his flight to Tokyo.

The Women's Marathon has been hit hard by the non-appearance of our fastest three athletes - Jess Piasecki, Charlotte Purdue & Steph Twell. Purdue & Twell are working back from injury. Not sure about Piasecki. That leaves Steph Davis as the only athlete running who has the standard. Of the rest, I'd say Sarah Inglis has the best bet of getting the standard tomorrow, having run 2:29-high on her debut in Arizona last December. It will be interesting to see what Charlotte Arter does on her marathon debut though.

Terrific scenes at Kew Gardens as 39 year 343 days old Chris Thompson takes the win in 2:10:52 PB, booking his ticket to Tokyo. Brilliant reaction by him in the last 50 metres.

Around 27km he was 35 seconds behind the lead group of Ben Connor, Dewi Griffiths & Mo Aadan and then a few km later, as the cameras came back to them after showing the lead women, he was there back up with the leaders!

Ben Connor was 2nd in 2:12:06 (?) but has the standard from last year so will join Callum Hawkins & Thommo on the team to be announced on Tuesday.

In the Women's race a lead group of 5 went through 25km together and then Steph Davis took off to win in 2:27:16 (a 24s PB) - 74:05 & 73:11 splits.

Natasha Cockram 2nd in 2:30:03 PB, 33 seconds outside the Tokyo standard.

Arter, Inglis & Partridge who had featured in the lead group of 5 all faded or DNF'd.

So, with Steph Twell aiming for the 10,000 instead it looks like the team will be Davis and - provisional on proving fitness nearer the time - Jess Piasecki & Charlotte Purdue.

Great interview from Thompson too - could see what it meant to him.

Ian Hodge and his twitter posts are a valuable resource ! He is reporting that Lina Neilsen has run a 200 PB, improving from 24.03 to 23.13, Thats very positive, and not only that, according to some replies, she also ran a 51.8 relay leg and 11.56 100m w - well done her!

Also, he notes, amber anning 'is keeping v busy on the track and today improved her outdoor 400m PB to 52.08 for 4th in Texas relays.' - cant be too long before a 51 something - but I hope she takes a break before 'trials'; as GB women's 400 is hotting up for a relay spot.

Finally, in that same wittering someone noted - Daryll Neita also managed to run 23.28 (1.3) - her first 200m race since 2014! Cant do her any harm for the back end of her 100, .. I felt she had plateau'd and it will be interesting to see what her and Imani Lansiquot can do this year

NCAA champs are 2 weeks before trials so not much chance of a rest for Amber Anning.

To add to your reportage from Ian Hodge's valuable results page Twitter, there was also encouraging news regarding Divine Oladipo in shot put, where she threw the shot out to16.96m at the Maryland Invitational - her second best ever distance and the furthest she's thrown it since setting her current pb of 17.37m at the NCAA's as a 19 year old in 2018.

You may know that the USATF have announced a new series of 10 meetings starting this Saturday and going through to June 6th. They have all been designated WA Continental Tour meetings.

I'm anticipating that the 3 Gold meetings will be shown live on YouTube by World Athletics along with the other Gold meetings. However, the other 7 meetings in the US will be streamed behind a paywall. Don't worry though, I'll be able to sort you out with on-demand videos after each meeting.
