However, she's 34th on the Road To Tokyo out of a quota of 45 and sure to rise a few more places after tonight.
Laura gave her all tonight, but the top few are all good for 3.55s; excellent run from her but, sadly, i cannot see a medal for her in Tokyo. Hassan will not be running the 1500m in OG. and I make Kipyegon fully capable of repeating her Rio triumph. The mystery person is perhaps Houlihan witha good finish but hasn't done owt yet; probably injured ??

    • A great meet this evening ; nothing like a warm evening and very small winds; Glad to see McLeod coming into top form; give Holloway something to think about.DAS looked on the way to top form;Cheptegei was a surprise; wonder whats gone wrong.? J I ran with great courage and wonder if he will stick with just the 1500m.

Not in top shape (see also his 3000m WR attempt in Ostrava 3 weeks ago) ? Or, maybe he just can't run that well anymore without the Wavelights ???!!!

        • Don’t normally get too excited by the joggers, but very impressed by Jakob driving a bus through 13 mins and in a proper race too. Give me that over a time trial any day of the week.

Dasher looking in very fine fettle. Tokyo may be tougher than Doha for her, but I suspect she’ll be right in the mix.

Can’t overstate how much I detest the last round / top 3 nonsense in the field. Adds the square root of sod all, and if that ever comes into championships then I’m off to watch tiddlywinks.

            • The meeting at Niece this weekend has some interesting fields withe athletes obviously going for WA equals.
The 800 shows Giles and Mills running but their are a number of Brits trying for quals not yet achieved: Courtney - Bryant, Boffey are in the meet

Plus Walcott-Nolan, who has already improved to 4:08 this year and may yet get quicker.

Really impressed with Walcott-Nolan's performace in the european cup 3000m getting maximum points for GB in not her first choice event. If she gets the standard I would think she has a good chance of getting on the plane perhaps as the third discretionary pick. Could that performance in the european cup hold some sway with the selectors when the time comes.

seems a universal contempt so an experiment that will not be repeated hopefully next year.

I really want to see an example where someone gets a huge jump/throw in rounds 1-5 (miles better than the competition), then has to pull out and thus comes third. To properly emphasise the absurdity.

                Exactly, it's a total nonsense.

            • Caught up with Day 1 of the NCAAs. Think I have watched more 10,000m in the last 7 days than in any single Olympic cycle since the 1980s, when they used to be a staple on British TV.

              • Totally agreed Jogger. Although that is also hypothetically possible due to wind limits in horizontal jumps.

                Odd sport we follow.

A windy result still wins the comp - just not valid as a record.

              • 17yo Swiss lass Audrey Werro ran a 2:02.32 PB in Geneva, behind winner Uruguay's Deborah Rodriguez, 2:00.20 PB.

                • A brilliant 5000 for 21yo Nadia Battocletti in Nice, 14:58.73, taking 18s off her recent PB and getting the big Q for Tokyo.

                  • Germany's Lea Meyer with the Olympic standard in the Steeple in Nice, 9:29.26, an 8 second PB.

And another PB for 19yo Claire Palou (FRA), just a 3s PB this time with 9:31.46.

I think that makes her the 3rd fastest teenager ever not to be born in Africa, a little bit faster now than Europe's current two best, Gesa Krause and Anna Emilie Moller, were at the same age.

For further context she's currently faster than all but 1 of the 21-23 year olds in the NCAA.

                    • Lots of impressive marks at NCAA's as you would expect, 43.85 from Randolph Ross having run several 44.6s earlier in the season, followed up with a 43.6 relay leg 90 minutes later taking his team from 6th to first. Lets see what Mu can do overnight

                        • Sturgis and Clark wind legal 200m in 22.12 and 22.17 respectively. How that may translate in USA Trials remains to be seen
