We'll see if the West can match it tonight.
Having seen the 1st round heats there I'm not sure they can and the 2 best 800 runners there - Athing Mu & Sage Hurta - are both running another event instead.Last edited by LuckySpikes; 30-05-21, 02:05.

Nowhere near - fastest West qualifier would have been 10th in the East.

Fabulous performance by Warner in Gotzis. 8995 so close to 9000. Could be favourite for Tokyo gold now. Kaul and Uibo underperformed all weekend and Mayer is a bit of an enigma.

Just catching up with the Portland Track Festival live streams that I stumped up for. Still got the 1500s and 5000s to go but I've clipped the video of the M 800 with Brazier vs Korir vs Jesus Tonatiu Lopez. Watch it at https://www.dropbox.com/s/esc18yhkco...tival.mp4?dl=0
I've written about the bespectacled Mexican a couple of times already this season. He's going to be a contender come Tokyo!

Just finished my Portland viewing. Yes, well done to Bird, Grice & Heyward. Craig Engels won that 1500 in 3:33.64 PB.
There was a swift W 800 too with 6 women sub-2, led by Gabriella Debues-Stafford, 1:58.70 PB and Sabrina Southerland, 1:58.82 PB.
Karissa Schweizer didn't look great in the 5000, just 4th in 15:00 behind Jessica Hull (14:57), Andrea Seccafien & Julie-Anne Staehli.
If there was a non-African Women's 4 x 5000m relay Canada would now be right up there challenging for the silver medal with GBR (probably behind the USA). To go with GDS (14:44), in the last 2 weeks Secaffien (14:57), Staehli (14:57) and Kate van Buskirk (14:59) have all run PBs. In reserve they'd have Natalia Hawthorn (15:05) as well.

Jodie at 22.88 and 52.01 behind felix 50.66. Knighton the youngster wins in 20.11 with hughes in 20.30 and Gemili way back in 20,6 and bits. Brianna William's gets down to a legal 10.98.

Can’t say that Erriyon Knighton is a name that has crossed my radar before but he’s lowered Bolt’s u18 WR to 20.11. Some 7 months younger than Bolt was, which may matter a little at that age.
=4th on that list is Thomas Somers with his 20.37 from 2014. Still competes regularly, but nowhere that kind of level. What’s the story there?

As to Somers, simple answer. Injuries. Lots of 'em.
