Just got to see Burgin's run now... I think a lot of folks had no idea how good Max was with his youth and fleeting appearances limited to the UK... But with that outstanding performance today, he's introduced himself to the world and likely shocked some of the established 800m runners with that. 1:44.14! European U20 record, 16th on the World all time U20 list, and 12th on the UK senior all time list... Amazing stuff!Comment

Hodgkinson and Burgin really announcing themselves. Also good stuff from Knight and Norman. Very pleasing to see.
But on a different level, Vetter continues making the rest of the world look silly. 94.20 is territory that only he and the Spear God himself occupy. Never thought I’d say it, but breaking one of the best WRs in the book is looking like a matter of time.Comment

an outstanding paced type of race in which Burgin will continue to shine; however, I await a two or three race global with no pacemakers and tactics galore in the race, before it is possible to judge Max who is still quite young. It will be instructive to see how he deals with the competition in our Trials next month.Comment

I'm with you, philipo.
Obviously extremely talented and a great time-trialler with no bodies in front or around him. But, he's yet to prove himself as a "proper racer" at this level - his previous 3 races against the pros haven't gone great. A year older though, maybe he'll sort that out soon enough? -
He's 18 and has just run 1:44.1. I don't expect him to even make the final at Tokyo, just being there at that age is a huge achievement

I did notice something wrong at the time, but seemingly Christian Taylor did his Achilles last night. His key date is of course the US Trials.....Comment

That stumble he had on the run up looked more serious than it was initially.
And it's a ruptured achilles tendon injury too. That's his season done for sure. We'll have a new Olympic triple jump champion for the fiirst time since 2008. Taylor's bid to become just the second man in history to win 3 straight Olympic titles for the TJ (USSR great Vikto Saneyev having done so in '68, '72 and '76) is now over.Last edited by RunUnlimited; 22-05-21, 10:29.Comment
