When i note the numerous sprint and other performances in April in America in the last few weeks, with some amazing sudden improvements, together with those Texan and Floridan winds just on the right side of legal, especially those nice liittle 2.0 winds following winds, and bearing in mind the alleged lack of dope control in the pandemic age, i have to express my scepticism about some of the results. If its down to the extra training year, i wonder what we are going to see in Europe this year.

A new contender on the Men's 800m world scene?? And he's Mexican!

At the Kansas City Qualifier, in pretty windy conditions, Jesús Tonatiu López improved his own NR from 1:45.03 to 1:44.40. It looked like there was more in the tank too.

Highly likely to make Japan's 5000m team, 20yo Ririka Hironaka also has a place on the 10,000m team if she wants it. After running 31:30 on her 10,000 debut three weeks ago, she won today's Japanese Championships in 31:11.75 (15:28 / 15:43) from Yuka Ando, 31:18.18 PB. Ando will join Hironaka & the pre-selected Hitomi Niiya on the team for Tokyo.

In the Men's race, Tatsuhiko Ito, already with the standard, booked his place on the Tokyo startline by being the first Japanese man home in 27:33.38. He'll join the pre-selected NR-holder, Akira Aizawa, on the team.

He looked very strong in the last 100m; would be nice to see even more South Americans getting to the elite level.
