People have been saying that about Tamgho, Taylor, Pichardo, Claye and even Christian Ollson during his heyday.... none (apart from Taylor) have come particularly close, even though Tamgho, Pichardo and Claye hae all jumped over 18 meters.

I'd tipped Zango to do big things after performance in Doha 2019, and of course this is a history making leap, the first ever indoor TJ over 18 metres, but to go over 18.29m is going to take a special, special attempt and all of the factors for success to happen in that one moment.... and in the TJ, there is no such guarantees.

I'll certainly be watching to see how his season goes (hopefully a season that can take place and not be sidetracked by COVID) and what he does in competition.

(I suppose it would be kinda poetic if the world record *did* go to Zango, considering he's being coached by the guy who tried so hard to break Edwards' mark before injury forced him into premature retirement....)

Zango is competing again at the Meeting Elite de Miramas this coming Friday - the meeting is being live streamed by the French Federation. Looks like it will be a decent meeting overall.

Still not as good as the all-time classic From the Depths of Hell race though....

Yes, Michigan needed a couple of crazy Irishmen doing the stadium announcing instead!

In a similar vein - Heather Dorniden (later Kampf) falls with 200m to go in the 600m final at the 2008 Big Ten Championships, then watch what happens ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtwk7KEfcKM

                  Obvioulsy the WR was impressive

But for me GT going sub 36 indoor the way she did, ouch! I wouldn't be surprised if we see her in the 4x400 or even the flat any time soon

Bromell’s 6.49 in his first meeting of the year stood out as well

Some of the fields for Karlsruhe this Friday night should be cracking, e.g., going in the W 60H are Visser, Amusan, Talay, Herman, Bogliolo, Dutkiewicz, Samba-Mayela, Neziri & Hurske.

There's some other good European meetings taking place on Saturday and Sunday - Dusseldorf, Vienna & Mondeville - all being live streamed.

I think it's the first time that Mondeville & Vienna will have been live streamed. That's one small positive for armchair athletics fans to come out of this pandemic - more meetings are live streaming because fans aren't allowed in the arena.

Great stuff from Crouser and nice to see Barnes name off the top of one list. Broke it by 16 cm, so quite a chunk.

I've long thought one of the current crop could take down the current outdoor WR of 23.12 and I'm now pretty convinced that man will be Crouser.

All 5 legs of the WA Indoor Tour are going to be live on BBC online & the iPlayer - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/athletics/55739291

Which begs the question ...Have the Beeb had a change of heart about abandoning athletics to the wilderness? I hope so!

I did have to raise my eyebrow at this comment... the following events have been removed from our plans: '60m women – due to lack of sufficient confirmed entries'

Very surprising to see now 60m as I think we would have quite a few women who have done or are close to a European qualifying time. Almost all of them must have turned it down.

By invitation only. What's the betting someone will feel aggrieved they haven't been invited?
