  • I've watched the Men's 10,000 in LA now and it seems like Sam Atkin only started the race as a pacemaker. He had hip number 2 and each race had 2 lead pacers with hip numbers 1 & 2.
Obviously he was feeling so good when he dropped off the pacing duties at 5k that he decided to carry on and see what he could do.

    • Very good run by Atkin. His first 10K since 2016 too. And it puts him ahead of Mo in this year's rankings.

      • Good week for current or former (Sam Atkin) NAIA athletes.

Emma Wilson (USA), who pushed Amy-Eloise Neale so hard on the country 4 weeks ago, ran 32:38 in a mixed 10,000 tonight.

No need to chase after an Olympic qualifier any more.

Meanwhile, in Brisbane, 20 year old Ash Maloney, set an Australian record of 8492. Highlight was a 45.82 400, the 3rd fastest ever in a dec behind Ashton Eaton and Bill Toomey.

Cedric Dubler also got the qualifying score in 2nd place.

            • Amazing how the season has gone, when was the last time a world lead was set so late in the year? Today Stewart McSweyn just ran a Mile in 3:50.61 for an Australian all comers record, winning by 19 seconds in Tasmania.

              • McSweyn has had a good year.

                • Getting settled in for an afternoon of top-notch road racing on the live streams! A nice treat to end a rotten year that had so many cancellations of road races.

                  • At the BoClassic in Bolzano, Yeman Crippa didn't succeed in his bid to break Jimmy Gressier's European Record (13:18). In fact the first European was Belgium's Robin Hendrix who pulverised the Belgian NR running 13:19 in 2nd behind Oscar Chelimo (UGA), 13:18.

Margaret Chelimo Kipkemboi won the Women's 10km in 30:42.

In 50 minutes' time Gressier is attempting to improve that ER in Barcelona where Genzebe Dibaba will attack Hassan's 14:44 WR.

                    • No records at the Run Of The Noses in Barcelona.

The winners were Gressier 13:39, Dibaba 15:00 approx, Amdouni 27:42 PB & Obiri 30:53. Gressier doubled back from the 5k to get 3rd in the 10k in 28:15.

Contrary to what I initially stated in the Live Streaming Links thread, the Madrid course coming up might be record-eligible (for the Spanish men?) - I'd forgotten that they have changed the course for this year I think.

                      • Daniel Simiu (27:42) and Yelamzerf Yehualaw (31:16) were the comfortable winners in Madrid. Ruth Chepngetich 2nd in 31:49 and in the men's Paul Chelimo (28:14) outdipped Mike Foppen for 3rd.
