  • Live streams/broadcasts for Friday 9th September:

    Friday to Sunday
    • Japanese University Team T&F Championships AKA Emperor's Gift Cup (Kyoto, JPN) - Always a good championships; The big story here is the return to action of Seira Fuwa (30:45 for 10,000 last year, aged 18!) who's been out since February with achilles issues. She's entered in the 5,000 and 10,000 and in the latter faces the previous collegiate record-holder, Narumi Kobayashi, though Kobayashi hasn't been in great form over the last 18 months or so. Ryuji Miura goes in the Men's 5000 & 3000SC
    • South American U18 Championships (São Paulo, BRA) - No idea of the fields here but I think it's taken pretty seriously. There'll be 273 athletes from 10 nations competing
    Friday
    • Zagreb City Challenge (Zagreb, CRO) - City square meeting - W PV, W TJ & M LJ; part of the Boris Hanžeković Memorial WA Gold meeting; Tina Sutej, Nea Filipic and Tajay Gayle lead the entries
    • UK 5k Road Championships (Newcastle-upon-Tyne, GBR) - Race cancelled due to the death of The Queen

The On Athletics Club (incl Mills & Hughes) - see below - didn't make it to the BTC Track Night in Berlin.

    • Added to today's events in the document above is the BTC Track Night in Berlin. Mostly it's club runners being paced by top Nike stars such as Keely, Jakob & Stewy McSweyn!
However, both the 1500 'A' races are decent. The Men's features George Mills and some other good athletes, and the Women's (paced by Keely) includes Cari Hughes and a couple of 4:10/4:12 Germans.

        • ? European Road Race U20 - Trofeo Opitergium (Oderzo, ITA) - WA Elite Label races; Always a nice event through the old town. Teams from 14 European countries are competing, including England teams in both the Women's 5km & the Men's 10km
        • 10km El Pendo (Camargo, ESP) - Pretty good domestic fields. There's 2 streams, one for the head of each race
        • ? Corsa Internazionale Oderzo Città Archeologica (Oderza, ITA) - International Men's 10km road race; Decent, mostly domestic, field this year
        • Sydney Marathon (Sydney, NSW, AUS) - WA Elite Label race; Very nice fields here, e.g., with 11 sub-2:25 women entered
        • The Great Cow Harbor 10k incl USATF 10km Championships (Northport, NY, USA) - Pretty good fields here
        Sunday
        • Porto Half Marathon (Porto, POR) - WA Label race; No idea who's racing but the fields should be good
        • Dam tot Damloop (Amsterdam to Zaandam, NED) - International 10 miles road race; Good fields with big names especially in the Women's race (which starts 6 mins before the Men's), namely Margaret Chelimo Kipkemboi & Lonah Salpeter
        • French Half Marathon Championships (Saint-Omer, FRA) - Not the strongest of fields. Florian Carvalho & Melody Julien are the favourites
        • Copenhagen Half Marathon (Copenhagen, DEN) - WA Elite Label race; Loaded fields for both races!
        Monday
        • Tokai area Selection race for All Japan University Women's Ekiden (Okazaki, JPN) - 5000m track race; Ekiden season is soon upon us and I'll be trying to bring you as many as possible (though you'll see this selection race is an individual 5000m track race)

        • Live streams/broadcasts for Friday 23rd September:

          Friday
          • Kansai region University Women's Ekiden (Kobe, JPN) - I really enjoyed this last year. It's a qualifying race for the Japanese University Women's Ekiden (AKA Morino Miyako Ekiden) at the end of October - 18 teams are competing here. Seven or 8 of the 26 teams that compete at Morino Miyako usually come from this region (containing big cities such as Osaka, Kyoto & Kobe) so the standard of this Kansai race is good. Ritsumeikan University & Osaka Gakuin University are already qualified by virtue of having finished Top 8 at the national race last year. Then the next 5 highest placed teams in this Kansai Ekiden will also qualify. The 3.25km loop used for each of the legs is deceptively tough with a lot of undulation - long gradual downhills and long gradual drags uphill, as well as a nasty little kicker before re-entering the 'stadium' at the end of each lap. Last year's winners were Ritsumeikan University (burgundy vests with a white "R"; bib 1) and the 2020 victors were Kansai University (white vest with navy stripe across & navy shorts; bib 3). Osaka University of Arts are also usually up there in the top 4 or 5 - they'll be in the red vest and shorts with bib 2. The fastest winning time from the last 7 years was 1:39:12 by Kyoto University in 2017 but the course record is 1:36:58 by Ritsumeikan Uni in 2010
          • Tokai region Selection races for Japanese University Men's & Women's Ekidens (Okazaki, JPN) - Women's 5000m track race & Men's 10,000m; This is the event that was supposed to happen last Monday but was postponed due to the typhoon. The Men's selection race has been added to the programme. To determine the winning teams who each qualify for the national University Ekidens, the times are tallied for 6 athletes
          Friday to Sunday
          • Japanese Corporate T&F Championships (Gifu, JPN) - A quick perusal of the entry/start lists should give you an impression of the depth of these events, e.g., every one of the 23 men in the 10,000 'A' race has run sub-28 and in the Women's 5000 'A' race there's 7 sub-15 athletes including Nozomi Tanaka who's also in the 1500; Whilst a lot of the top names are here, there's a few missing including Ririka Hironaka & Mao Ichiyama who both only got back to racing last weekend at a time trials meeting

Next major post tomorrow (Friday) evening for the weekend's events including the Berlin Marathon.

          • Other than the ongoing Japanese Corporate T&F Championships detailed above, there are no free live streaming events for Saturday 24th.

We've been thwarted for the two Saturday possibilities:
            a) the only available unofficial TV channel stream for the Run Your City 10k (Jo'burg) is currently not working and
            b) Lidingöloppet, the first leg of this winter's World Cross Country Tour, is only being shown on a subscription TV channel in Sweden.

So, the next major post will now be tomorrow (Saturday) evening for Sunday's events. That gives more time for info to become available - at present it's a bit lacking for some of Sunday's events that are usually streamed/broadcast.

            • Live streams/broadcasts for Sunday 25th September:

There's a lot of good events happening on Sunday but quite a few of them not being streamed.

              Sunday
              • Ongoing Japanese Corporate T&F Championships (Gifu, JPN) - See 2 posts above; Has to be watched live since they're not archiving the YouTube streams until 2 weeks' time (after the TV highlights broadcast)
              • Okukuma Ekiden AKA Good Hearts Cup (Taragi to Asagiri, JPN) - Ekiden for Men's Corporate & University teams and for Boys High School athletes; There's some good athletes competing here so it should be a nice race
              • Berlin Marathon (Berlin, GER) - WA Elite Platinum Label race; The headline news is Kipchoge attacking his WR. Behind him only Guye Adola has broken 2:05. The Women's field looks more competitive with 7 sub-2:21 athletes headed by Keira D'Amato. Rosemary Wanjiru makes her debut at this distance. She has a 65:34 Half PB and 29:50 for 10km. There's also a load of good Japanese athletes competing here
              • Brașov Running Festival 10km (Brașov, ROU) - WA Elite Label race; Strong fields here headed by Nicholas Kipkorir (AKA Kimeli) & Weldon Langat and Sheila Chepkirui & Faith Cherono (30:50 this year at age 19) as well as several East African women around the 31 minute mark
              • Milla de Madrid (Madrid, ESP) - International road miles; Good mainly domestic fields but supplemented by Kamar Etiang (KEN) in the Men's. He'll race the likes of Igancio Fontes & Dani Arce. In the Women's race Marta Perez heads the field that also includes Marta Garcia and Spain's 3 promising 20/21yo 800m athletes - Lucia Pinacchio, Marina Martinez & Daniela Garcia
              • Běchovice – Praha incl Czech 10km Road Championships (Běchovice to Prague, CZE) - Not deep fields but the Women's race should be a good race between Eugene marathon representatives Moira Stewartová & Tereza Hrochová

Next major post on Wednesday evening for the South American U23 Championships starting on Thursday and the Chile Pepper Festival NCAA XC meeting on Friday.

              • Live streams/broadcasts for Thursday 29th September to Friday 30th September:

                Thursday to Saturday
                • South American U23 T&F Championships (Cascavel, BRA) - No idea of the entry lists yet but it seems like it will be decent
                Friday
                • Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival (Fayetteville, AR, USA) - NCAA D1, D2 & NAIA meeting; This meeting isn't as strong as it used to be. On the Women's side this year there's one nationally Top 25 ranked team, Arkansas, and two on the Men's side, Tulsa & Arkansas; There's a few more top D2 teams involved though

Next major post on Friday evening for the weekend's events including the London Marathon, the Cardiff Half Marathon, the Great Scottish Run, the Athletics Challenge Cup meeting in Japan (Conti Tour Bronze) and other top road races such as the Giro al Sas & the 15k Nocturna Valencia.

                • Live streams/broadcasts for Saturday 1st October to Monday 3rd October:

                  Saturday to Sunday
                  • Let's Connect Together Relay Festival & Japanese Relay Championships (Tokyo, JPN) - This is mostly 4x100s and some 8x100s for various categories/age groups but there's also the 4x400 Japanese Championships
                  • Athletics Challenge Cup (Niigata, JPN) - WA Continental Tour Bronze meeting; There's very good domestic depth in most of the events here as well as some Japanese-based Kenyans; In the W 5000 Ririka Hironaka & Nozomi Tanaka go against 14:49 & 14:53 Kenyans Naomi Mussoni & Agnes Mwikali; Haruka Kitaguchi competes in the Jav and Jade Lally in the Discus
                  • Nippon Sports Science University Long Distance Meeting AKA Nittai University Time Trials (Yokohama, JPN) - M & W 800, 1500 & 5000, W 3000 & M 10,000 (not only for Uni athletes); There's often fast times run at this series of meetings and the 'A' races in the M 5000 & 10,000 look pretty strong. The top-end depth in the Women's races has maybe suffered a little due to the clash with the meeting above in Niigata but there's still good athletes competing, e.g., Harumi Okamoto (15:20/31:28 PBs), Mai Shoji (15:34 PB), Yumi Yoshikawa (15:32 PB last weekend) and Minami Yamanouchi in the W 5000 'A' race. The latter is on something of a comeback after running 15:21/31:16 in 2018. Three weeks ago she ran 8:57 for 3000 and 15:32 for 5000 last weekend so she's in good shape
                  • ? Italian U23 Club Championships Final (Modena, ITA) - There's some good athletes competing here, including Anna Arnaudo and Ludovica Cavalli who's been having a big breakthrough year in the 1500 (8s off her PB down to 4:05.8)
                  Saturday
                  • Ongoing South American U23 T&F Championships (Cascavel, BRA) - See post above
                  • Zagreb Marathon (Zagreb, CRO) - WA Label race; No idea of who's competing!
                  • Milla Nocturna Urbana (Reinosa, ESP) - Road miles; Toni Abadia & Ivan Sainz headline the Men's race whilst Lidia Campo should be the favourite in the Women's
                  • Melbourne Marathon & Half Marathon (Melbourne, AUS) - Not super-deep fields in the Marathons though the Half Marathons are strong domestically. The Men's marathon is headed by Timothy Kiplagat Rono (2:07), Cornelius Kiplagat (2:08) & Liam Adams. In the Women's race Izzi Batt-Doyle is making her marathon debut and she faces Yeneabeba Eigu & Beatrice Cheptoo, both 2:25 athletes. The Men's Half Marathon includes Rayner, McEntee, Bruce, Buchanan & Andre Waring. In the Women's equivalent, Rose Davies makes her HM debut against Stenson, Diver, Sarah Klein and possibly Wellings
                  • 15K Nocturna Valencia (Valencia, ESP) - WA Label race; No idea yet of who's competing but usually there's good fields here
                  Sunday
                  • Women's Challenge Grand Prix Series 10k - Round 5 (Johannesburg, RSA) - The penultimate race in this series sees the familiar faces from the previous 4 races returning including Tadu Tashome (called Nare here) - fresh off winning the Copenhagen Half Marathon - Helalia Johannes, Glenrose Xaba and Irvette van Zyl
                  • Košice International Peace Marathon (Košice, SVK) - WA Elite Label race; Pretty good looking fields for this very old event with 6 sub-2:08 men and 4 women at 2:26 or faster
                  • London Marathon (London, GBR) - WA Elite Platinum Label race; No need to big this up!
                  • Zumaia Flysch Trail Half Marathon (Zumaia-Gipuzkoa, ESP) - World Cup Gold Label - Mountain Running (Long category); 22km and 860m of climbing along the Basque coastline; TBH, my knowledge of Mountain running is limited but from the previews I've read it seems like the fields are quite good; I've no idea what the coverage will be like
                  • Morat-Fribourg (Morat to Fribourg, SUI) - International 17.17km road race; This is a fun race to watch - it's net 162m uphill, climbing 130m between 1.5km & 5.5km and also 40m in the last 400m or so; There's a decent contingent of Swiss-based former/current Africans in the Men's race such as Tadesse Abraham and Tefera Mekonen; Cynthia Kosgei should have the Women's race all to herself
                  • International Donostia San Sebastián Half Marathon (San Sebastián, ESP) - Fairly good domestic fields here, especially on the Men's side with Ayad Lamdassem, Fernando Carro & Javi Guerra included
                  • Cardiff Half Marathon (Cardiff, GBR) - WA Elite Label race; Nice fields here with 3 sub-60 men, headed by Geoffrey Koech (59:32 PB). Dewi Griffiths leads the British contingent. The top of the Women's race is equally strong with 4 athletes at 68-low or faster. Viola Chepngeno (66:48 PB) heads the field with Natasha Cockram the top Brit
                  • Great Scottish Run (Glasgow, GBR) - Half Marathon; Looking very much like a domestic affair that includes Callum Hawkins
                  • Singelloop Breda (Breda, NED) - WA Label race; Half Marathon; No idea who's competing!
                  • Giro Al Sas (Trento, ITA) - International Men's 10km road race (just over 10 laps round the lovely old town); Muktar Edris has won this famous old race several times and this year faces Yeman Crippa. There's also a good string of "second fiddle" Italians running
                  • Medtronic TC 10 Mile incl USATF 10 Mile Championships (Minneapolis, MN, USA) - There's good fields here, the Men's with the likes of H Bor, Chelanga, Kebenei, Kipchirchir & Stinson whilst in the Women's Frisbie, Rojas, Durgin, Kurgat, Paquette & Pagano are amongst those who should feature
                  Monday
                  • Trento Half Marathon (Trento, ITA) - So, Tamirat Tola is knocking off the London Marathon for this. To be fair, it's a good event and he's raced several times here and in nearby Bolzano. He's up against several East Africans who seem to be making their HM debuts (28 minute 10km types). In the Women's race there's a few 68 min East Africans plus Giovanna Epis flying the home flag

                  • Live streams for event starting on Thursday 6th October:

                    Thursday to Monday 10th
                    • National Sports Festival (Tochigi, JPN) - This is a big event, comprising 37 sports including athletics. There's plenty of depth here and some big names competing in Shunya Takayama (13.10 at 110H), Ririka Hironaka, Haruka Kitaguchi & Serena Sonoda in a good 5000m RW

                        Saturday to Monday
                        • Ongoing National Sports Festival (Tochigi, JPN) - See post above; It is now noted in the document above that these streams are not available live but are available on-demand shortly afterwards
                        Saturday to Sunday
                        • Chubu region Autumn Corporate T&F Championships (Tajimi, JPN) - The quality of events is variable here but the Men's 10,000 'A' race is very strong including Rodgers Kwemoi, Bedan Karoki, Evans Keitany and some good Japanese including Tomoki Ota (27:33 PB). On the Women's side the 3000m is pretty good
                        Saturday
                        • Milla Internacional de Berango (Berango, ESP) - International Road Miles; European Athletics Permit meeting; It's one of the quirks of world athletics - The Spanish love their road miles! This is the first of a double bill of loaded road miles with many of the athletes here also racing again in Jaén on Wednesday. Here Katir faces Euro 800m champ Mariano Garcia, Fontes, Jesús Gómez, Kevin Lopez, Ben, Ordonez & Isaac Nader (POR) amongst others. The Women's race is also strong with Guerrero, Marta Perez, Salome Afonso (POR), Munoz (now Marques), Pereira, Gallardo, Robles and others
                        Sunday
                        • Sofia Marathon (Sofia, BUL) - WA Label race; I don't know which elite athletes are competing here but I have read there are 5 Kenyan & 2 Moroccan men and, for the Women, 2 Kenyans and one Ethiopian
                        • les 20km de Paris (Paris, FRA) - WA Label race; The Men's field is pretty strong here with Amdouni, Schrub, Bour, Choquert and the Swedes David Nilsson & Samuel Tsegay. 2019 champions Enos Kakopil (KEN) & Naom Jebet are both returning, Jebet's most likely challenger being Mekdes Woldu (FRA)
                        • Munich Marathon (Munich, GER) - WA Elite Label race; Decent fields here, headlined by former World champ Mare Dibaba and Tsegaye Mekonnen (2:04:32 PB from 2014 when he was 19)
                        • Lisbon Marathon (Cascais to Lisbon, POR) - WA Elite Label race; No idea who's racing but it's usually a good quality race with course records of 2:05:52 and 2:24:13
                        • Eindhoven Marathon (Eindhoven, NED) - The Men's race has 3 sub-2:07 athletes, headed by Deribe Robi; Last year the Women's race hardly got any coverage on the TV broadcast. The fastest entrant is Bere Ayalew whose 2:25:07 PB comes from last year's Lisbon Marathon
                        • Luso Half Marathon (Lisbon, POR) - WA Elite Label race; The big Portuguese races are often poor at communicating who the elite athletes are. So, again, I've no idea who's running this! This race is not to be confused with the other Half Marathon held in Lisbon where Jacob Kiplimo broke the WR
                        • De 4 Mijl van Groningen (Groningen, NED) - International 4 Miles road race; From the Preview article it seems that this usually good international race is mostly domestic this year. In the Women's race Maureen Koster faces Diane van Es and Jip Vastenburg. In the Men's, super-fast 17yo Niels Laros races along with Tony van Diepen who is going over-distance just a bit!
                        • Tout Rennes Court (Rennes, FRA) - European U23 match 10km road races; Prior to COVID this event included teams from England & Portugal. This year there's no info on teams or athletes so it might be like last year when there was French national teams and some regional teams
                        • Chicago Marathon (Chicago, IL, USA) - WA Elite Platinum Label race; Strong fields, especially on the Men's side. Some of the side stories are the marathon debuts of Conner Mantz (USA) & Pat Tiernan (AUS) and also whether Emily Sisson can get her marathon career back on track. Sarah Inglis will be looking to improve her 2:29:41 PB (the new world champs standard is 2:28:00)

                        • Izumo Men's All Japan University Ekiden (Izumo, JPN) - Qualifier for the All Japan University Men's Ekiden on 6 November; This is one of the 3 major Men's University Ekidens; Given the importance of the race there's a lot of very good athletes competing, amongst them big-hitters Ryuji Miura & Ren Tazawa (27:23.4 PB at age 21), The course record on the current 45.1km course is 2:09:05 by Aoyama Gakuin University in 2015

Added to the document is Sunday's Pisa Half Marathon which doubles as the Italian Half Marathon Championships. See the post below for teaser notes (I'm always wary of editing a major post in case I get the dreaded "Unapproved").

                      • Added to the latest document above is Sunday's Pisa Half Marathon incl Italian Half Marathon Championships. There's nice fields assembling for this. In the Men's race Chiappinelli, Meucci, Aouani & La Rosa should lead the charge for the Italian title. The international entrants are headed by Paul Tiongik (KEN) and Onesphore Nzikwinkunda (BDI), both 61 minute men. In the Women's race, there's the intriguing HM debut of young Anna Arnaudo although she'll have tough competition in the form of Sofia Yaremchuk (ITA, formerly UKR; 69:09 PB), Lucy Mawia Muli (KEN), Francine Niyomukunzi (BDI; 68:21 PB) & Rebecca Lonedo. Lucy Mawia Muli should be familiar to anyone who watched some of last season's World Cross Country Tour - she raced 10 times on that! Her PB is 69:38.

                        • Live streams/broadcasts for Wednesday 12th October to Friday 14th October:

                          Wednesday
                          • Milla Urbana Internacional de Otoño Manuel Pancorbo (Jaén, ESP) - Road Miles; After the Portuguese, Isaac Nader & Salome Afonso, took the wins at the big road miles in Berango on Saturday, it seems that this time there'll be no internationals to spoil the Spanish party. However, the fields are still loaded, especially on the Men's side. Mohamed Katir is down to run (though he scratched from Berango) and other top athletes racing, all returning from Berango, include Jesus Gomez, Fontes, Kevin Lopez, Dani Arce & Mariano Garcia. The Women's field is still pretty strong with the likes of Guerrero, Solange Pereira, Robles, Zoya Naumov, Gallardo & Euro U20 medalist Mireya Arnedillo
                          Wednesday to Saturday
                          • South American Games (Luque nr Asunción, PAR) - Whilst the absolute biggest names are missing, e.g., dos Santos & Zambrano, there's still a lot of good athletes competing; Usually on the PanAm Sports Channel there's not much available on-demand afterwards (although it's possible the athletics might be on YouTube as well)
                          Friday
                          • Nuttycombe Wisconsin Cross Country Invitational (Madison, WI, USA) - NCAA D1 XC meeting; There are always 2 or 3 big loaded invitational meetings before championship season and this is one of them, including teams like Arkansas, BYU, Colorado, Michigan, NC State, NAU, Notre Dame, Oregon, Stanford & Washington

Sorry, no teaser notes tonight except to say ...

Almaz Ayana & Genzebe Dibaba both make their marathon debuts in Amsterdam. The Men's race at the Cardiff Cross Challenge features a good international field, some of whom were prominent on last winter's World Cross Country Tour.

I promised to bring you streams for all the Ekidens I can and whilst the two prefectural races on offer here are not top-class, they do look fun. They're both on YouTube and most of the legs are run by kids (of various ages) with 1 or 2 legs run by adults.

I'm hopeful for live streams for the loaded road miles in Bilbao and Biella (ITA), the Cross Ciutat de Castelló (ESP) and also for the Delhi Half Marathon which I know Tim Hutchings is commentating on. If they do transpire I'll add them to the document and notify you here in this thread.

It seems that Channel 5 have dropped coverage of the Great South Run. Also, there's a couple of good events in Japan that are on TV channels not available to watch on the internet - the Naoto Tajima Memorial Meet and the Tokyo Legacy Half Marathon.
