It's possible that there will be a full post-race video for Saturday's Breaking 10 road race in Barrowford with Emile Cairess and Andy Butchart amongst others. The organisers are promoting the possibility of Cairess breaking Richard Nerurkar's 46:02 British Record for 10 Miles. If it becomes available, I will add it to the document. The race will finish around 6.30pm.
As stated elswhere on the forum, The TEN event in California is pay-per-view (6 dollars) so is not included in the document below.
Saturday to Sunday
- Ongoing New Zealand Outdoor Championships (Wellington, NZL) - See the post above
- Ongoing European Indoor Championships (Istanbul, TUR) - See the post above
- Ongoing New South Wales State Senior & U23 Outdoor Championships (Sydney, NSW, AUS) - See the post above
- Ongoing Victorian State Senior & U20 Outdoor Championships (Melbourne, VIC, AUS) - See the post above
- Spanish U20 Indoor Championships (Sabadell, ESP) - Whilst there is a number of good athletes here it's probably fair to say that it's not loaded. Maybe it comes too late in the indoor season and some of the best U20s have already "shut their season down"?
- Hobart Run the Bridge (Hobart, TAS, AUS) - International 10km road race; This year it looks like Aussies will be denied the home victory with 3 Ugandans competing - Kenneth Kiprop, Dan Kibet & Prisca Chesang (7th in World XC two weeks ago). Liam Adams, Leanne Pompeani and the Gregsons, Ryan & Genevieve, are amongst the top domestic entries
- USA 15km Championships (Jacksonville, FL, USA) - Leonard Korir & Hillary Bor are the pick of the Men's field whilst Emily Sisson should have the beating of a line-up that includes Allie Ostrander, Annie Frisbie & Dakotah Lindwurm
- Corrida Cipolletti (Cipolletti, ARG) - International 10km road race; I have no idea who's competing in this night race but I think it's usually a decent race with elite entries from several South American countries. Last year it was won in 29:00
- Tokyo Marathon (Tokyo, JPN) - WA Elite Platinum Label race; We're missing the massive names here (they're all running Boston or London) but the fields are still strong and competitive. There's 9 sub-2:05 men including Sisay Lemma, Benard Koech and Stephen Kissa (UGA). There's also a total of 46 sub-2:10 athletes entered so it could be another crazy-deep race like last weekend's men's race in Osaka where there was a lead pack of 50+ at halfway! Amongst the other athletes are Cam Levins and Mohamed El Aaraby (2nd in NY, 2021). Kyohei Hosoya (JPN; 2:06:35 PB) has said he's attacking Kengo Suzuki's 2:04:56 NR. The Women's field is headed by 6 women separated on PBs by 1 minute. They include Ashete Bekere, Rosemary Wanjiru (2:18:00 debut in Berlin 2022) and Tsehay Gemechu. The three fastest Japanese women entered will likely be aiming to join the sub-2:20 club. However, Mao Ichiyama broke a rib in December so her form is uncertain. Mizuki Matsuda has her limitations I feel (though I'd love to be proven wrong) and the third of those is Ai Hosoda. She may be the best bet having run 2:21:42 in London where she was all on her own for most of the race (remember, London has a women-only race). Maybe, having the competition this time could be enough to push her under the 2:20 barrier?
- Copa Brasil Race Walking (Brasilia, BRA) - The Men's 20km could be good here with Brazil's 3 Tokyo Olympians, Caio Bonfim, Mattheus Correa & Lucas Mazzo. The Women's 35km could also be decent quality with Viviane Lyra, Elianay Pereira & Mayara Vicentainer. Sadly, their big gun on the Women's side, Erica de Sena, is missing. She DNF'd at the World RW Tour event in Ecuador last weekend
Next major post on Wednesday for Thursday's Box Hill Classic (mid-D racing in Oz) and the start of the New Balance Indoor Nationals for US High-Schoolers.
