Yup, the stadium display said 85F but apparently it was closer to 100F at trackside. Impressive running and times though in that heat!

  • At the Japanese Championships today there was the W 5000 with Hitomi Niiya, Nozomi Tanaka, Ririka Hironaka & Kaede Hagitani. It was shown on TV but someone has shot good video from inside the stadium at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f48dkueIDT8

  • Live streams/broadcasts for Tuesday 29th June to Wednesday 30th June:

    Tuesday
    • Trofeo Diputacion de Castellón - Memorial José Antonio Cansino (Castellón, ESP) - Over the last couple of years this has become a good meeting; Among the stars competing are Echevarria, Genzebe Dibaba, Mekhissi Bennabad and Caballero & Perez in the Discus; Most of the events are solid and there's strong line-ups in the W 400, 800, 1500 & TJ and the M 400, 800 & 1500
    • midsommar - Charlottenburger Mittsommernacht (Berlin-Charlottenburg, GER) - Not strong fields across the board but there are some big names chasing Olympic standards, e.g., Haase & Pinto in the 100 & 200 and Luckenkmeper in the 100; Also a decent W 400
    • Spitzenleichtathletik (Luzern, SUI) - WA Continental Tour Silver meeting; No entry lists yet but van Niekerk, Schippers, Vetter, Rohler, Simbine, Hussong & Wanders have been announced; For those of you without Eurosport there is also an official live stream provided by Swiss Athletics (probably the TV broadcast with Swiss commentators)
    Wednesday
    • Memoriał Ireny Szewińskiej (Bydgoszcz, POL) - WA Continental Tour Gold meeting; No entry lists yet but as you'd expect some big names have been announced
    • Meeting International de la Province de Liège (Liège, BEL) - WA Continental Tour Bronze meeting; No entry lists yet but Semenya & Niyonsaba (both 5000) & Thiam (100H) have been announced; There'll be no on-demand viewing for this so you'd need to watch it live then watch the rest of Bydgoszcz later

Next major post on Wednesday evening for Thursday/Friday action including the Bislett Games, (hopefully) the Barcelona international meeting and the Brooks PR Invite in Seattle.

    • Some updates to the latest document ...
      - Startlists have been added for Luzern & Liege
      - The Swiss live stream of Luzern is from 7pm - 9pm. The Eurosport start time has been moved to 7pm also.
      - The WA preview for Bydgoszcz has been added (apparently startlists are already on the Roster Athletics app if you have that)

    • Live streams/broadcasts for Thursday 1st July to Friday 2nd July:

There's no sign yet of a live stream for Thursday's international meeting in Barcelona but to be honest the fields aren't as good this year (usually the mid-distance races are pretty loaded). However, if a stream does materialise I'll add the details. I think some of this week's meetings are suffering a bit from their proximity to national championships.

Regarding the Brooks PR Invite (Seattle) on Friday, there's now only 2 pro races (not the original 3), both 800m, at this mainly High School meeting and neither field is particularly good. So, I've decided not to include that stream.

      Thursday
      • Bislett Games - Oslo Diamond League (Oslo, NOR)
      Friday
      • Täby International Pole Vault Gala (Täby, SWE) - A street event; Braz, Walsh, Obiena and Irwin headline the men's competition; In the women's Alysha Newman, Polina Knoroz (ANA) and Olivia Gruver lead the field; Mondo's little sister, Johanna Duplantis, is also competing! She's 18 or 19 with an indoor PB of 3.96 so maybe the family talent isn't shining through just yet?

Next major post on Friday evening for the weekend including the Mannheim Junior Gala, Round 1 of the Hokuren Distance Challenge in Japan, the Lignano Sabbiadoro meeting, maybe the KBC Nacht meeting in Heusden-Zolder, the Stockholm DL and perhaps the Peachtree 10km road race (incl US Championships).

        • Live streams/broadcasts for Saturday 3rd July to Sunday 4th July:

          Saturday to Sunday
          • Spanish U20 Championships (Monzón, ESP) - There's a comprehensive Preview for this linked in the document
          • Bauhaus Junior Gala (Mannheim, GER) - A reduced number of central European and Nordic nations are competing here this year
          Saturday
          • Hokuren Distance Challenge Round 1 (Shibetsu, JPN) - M + W 1500, 3000 & 5000; I love this series of mid/long distance meetings, all held on the island of Hokkaido where it's cooler in the summer - there's 5 meetings in the next 14 days, covering a range of distances; Usually Round 1 is more low-key before many of the best athletes in Japan come out for the subsequent rounds; I haven't translated startlists for this round but I will endeavour to do so for subsequent rounds when there's some bigger name athletes competing
          • Meeting Internazionale “Sport e Solidarietà” (Lignano Sabbiadoro, ITA) - European Area Permit Meeting; Some good events here - Elaine Thompson & Natasha Morrison in the 100, Broadbell, Eaton & Alkana in the 110H and a good M 800; Mitchell-Blake is in the 100 and Ogbeta in a good TJ
          Sunday
          • Czech Super League Round 1 (Brno, CZE) - These are pretty good meetings with many of the best Czech-based athletes competing; The Czech Federation's live streams are excellent too
          • Peachtree Road Race incl USA 10km Road Championships (Atlanta, GA, USA) - Elite 10km road races; Decent fields headlined by Rupp, Chelanga, Abdirahman, Riley & Young in the men's and Sarah Hall, Tuliamuk, Bruce, Durgin & Nukuri in the women's
          • Bauhaus-Galan - Stockholm Diamond League (Stockholm, SWE)
          • KBC Nacht van de Atletiek (Heusden-Zolder, BEL) - WA Continental Tour Bronze meeting; This stream is just 15 minutes of highlights - the meeting actually takes place on Saturday; Some pretty good fields here

Next major post on Monday evening for Tuesday's Gyulai István Memorial WACT Gold meeting and for Wednesday's Hokuren Distance Challenge Round 2 and Trieste international meeting. Unfortunately Monday's WACT Bronze meeting in Nancy will be behind a paywall and Tuesday's Cork City Games has been cancelled for this year (as has Friday's Morton Games.)

          Wednesday
          • Hokuren Distance Challenge Round 2 (Fukugawa, JPN) - W 3000 and M + W 5000 & 10,000; The big guns aren't out yet for this series but the quality of fields is a bit of a step up from Round 1 last Saturday; I have translated the startlists into English
          • Triveneto Meeting Internazionale (Trieste, ITA) - European Area Permit Meeting; The fields are OK; Athletes from 30 countries arecompeting
          Thursday to Sunday

            Saturday
            • Stars and Stripes Classic (Marietta, GA, USA) - American Track League; Again, no idea of who's competing yet; I presume the fields will be good
            • Hokuren Distance Challenge Round 3 (Abashiri, JPN) - M + W 5000, 10,000 & 3000SC and W 800 & 3000 and M 1500; This terrific series continues; I've translated the startlists to English; Some good fields here, notably the W 3000 with Nozomi Tanaka, Ririka Hironaka, some good Kenyans and, returning from injury, Sayaka Sato (10,000/Marathon specialist); Also, both the 10,000m 'A' races are pretty strong and look competitive

            • Spanish Championships of Autonomous Federations (L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, ESP) - This is kind of like Spain's Inter-Counties, with one big difference ... Saturday to Sunday

Yeah,I have noticed this is one of the reasons Spain hoovers up so many miscellaneous Cubans, Moroccans etc. Their club & regional teams are so much stronger than ours. It is like professionals playing in county league cricket.

Yes, I think the good all-year-round weather helps as well for those without Spanish citizenship aspirations. There's a number of athletes from other nations who just choose to live and train there, e.g., Portuguese, some Bulgarians at the Playas de Castellon club (Eftimova & Mitkova), the Fotopoulou twins from Cyprus at one of the big clubs in Valencia etc.

            • The women's field isn't bad at the England 10,000m Championships tonight and includes Charlotte Arter & Jenny Nesbitt - https://www.bigfootrunning.co.uk/fastfriday-start-lists

There's some really nice fields at the Stars & Stripes Classic (ATL) in Atlanta (early hours of the morning) - startlists link now in the latest document and also in the comments below.

              • Anderstorp Running Grand Prix incl Swedish 10km Championships (Anderstorp Racetrack, SWE) - In the Men's race, last year's 1-2-3 return - Tsegay, Russom & David Nilsson; The women's field is headed by Hannah Lindholm, Samrawit Mengsteab, Linn Nilsson & Sara Christiansson
              Wednesday
              • Hokuren Distance Challenge Round 4 (Kitami, JPN) - M 800, 5000 & 10,000 + W 1500, 3000 & 5000; The Women's 5000 'A' race is perhaps the standout field with Nozomi Tanaka and a few good Kenyans heading it
              • Joensuu Games (Joensuu, FIN) - European Area Permit Meeting; Not great fields but there's star power with Lasitskene in the HJ and a decent W TJ with Minenko, Salminen & Ogbeta; Finnish TV's coverage of the field events is always very good (not just the javelin!)

I wished the Gateshead Diamond League, part Deux, was happening on Thurdsay or Friday.... Weather would be great for that part of the world at this time of year. 22 - 23 Celsius. Tomorrow is not going to be nearly as bad as it was on that dreadfully wet, windy and cold day in May, but 17 - 18 Celsius, with a likely headwind on the home straight, isn't too great either. Eh, maybe I'm over-thinking things and it will be a great meet regardless.

No, I've looked at some other countries broadcasts and they're all starting at 7pm. The DL's YouTube stream also starts at 7pm.

Maybe they'll show those races on the BBC before the Emsley Carr Mile at 6.41pm or before the world feed at 7? However, that it's starting at 6.30 makes me think it might be a Gab-fest for most of the first half hour.
