Also, the W 5000 with Letsenbet Gidey - in at least one preview it's reported she is aiming for the WR.

    • Live streams for Saturday 10th October to Sunday 11th October:

      Saturday
      • Poděbrady Walking (Poděbrady, CZE) - European Race Walking Permit meeting; The coverage of this is always good; Smaller fields than usual but no lack of quality - the men's 20km includes Kalrstrom, Chocho, Campion, Soto, Sanchez, Dohmann & several good Italians. The women's race includes Morejon, de Sena, Palmisano, Galvis, Drahotova & Trapletti; However, the U20 race entries have been affected badly; The races take place on a nice 1km loop through the park
      • FBK Late Summer meeting (Hengelo, NED) - Just 3 distance events but good quality; Includes Hassan, Gemechu & Laura Weightman in her track 10,000 debut, in the M 5000 Kejelcha & McSweyn and in the W 1000 Kipyegon is attacking the WR again
      Sunday
      • Bucharest Marathon (ROU) - WA Bronze Label; Not great fields but a few elite international athletes
      • Sofia Marathon (BUL) - WA Bronze Label; Small but pretty decent elite fields, with athletes drawn from Africa, Japan & Ukraine

      • Live streams for Saturday 17th October to Sunday 18th October:

The Japanese Ekiden season starts this weekend! Most of it has survived thus far with only a couple of races being cancelled.

I've found a new streaming service for Japanese TV channels and the quality of their streams is very good. For anyone who wants to watch those Japanese races but can't stay up for them, it's likely that the broadcasts will turn up on YouTube shortly after. If so, I will post links for them in this thread.

        Saturday to Sunday
        • Festa dell'Endurance incl Italian Sen/U23/U20/U18 Championships for 1500m to 5000m & 10km/5km Race Walking Championships (Modena, ITA) - 34 Italian titles to be awarded with some good names competing and good competitive races by the looks of it; The 10,000m shouldn't be on the startlists - these were run 3 weeks ago in Conegliano
        Saturday
        • Hakone Ekiden Yosenkai (Tachikawa, JPN) - This is a qualifier for the big Hakone Ekiden (Men's University teams) in the New Year although not an Ekiden itself. Instead, it's a half marathon with the times of each team's 10 scorers being added together; There's an extensive JRN preview of this
        • World Half Marathon Championships (Gdynia, POL) - No need to say any more about this!
        Sunday
        • Princess Ekiden (Munakata, JPN) - This is the qualifier for the Queen's Ekiden aka the Women's National Corporate Ekiden Championships; 6 legs totalling 42.195km; 20 of the 30 competing teams will qualify for the Queen's Ekiden on 22nd November; A lot of good names competing including Hitomi Niiya, Kaede Hagitami, Sayaka Sato and, on the 3.8km leg, a number of Kenyans & Melissa Duncan
        • International Competitions in Race Walking "Evening Ivano-Frankivsk" incl Ukrainian 20km & 50km Championships (Ivano-Frankivsk, UKR) - Mostly a domestic affair this year (still good quality) although a few good Turks are competing in the 20km races; The live streaming on this 1km loop course isn't brilliant but it is watchable and it's possible to follow things pretty well if you're armed with startlists

Next major post on Tuesday for the special Ekiden being held in Michigan on Wednesday. From the drip feed so far of athletes competing this looks very good.

Princess Ekiden - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6b_Tgub6ZIw (new link replacing the video that was taken down; Only 1h 20mins so, apart from the first 4.7km, I don't know what's missing since I haven't watched it yet)

          • Live stream for Wednesday 21st October:

            Wednesday
            • Michigan Pro Ekiden (Shelby Township, MI, USA) - The first edition of this event, a mixed Ekiden (3 men, 3 women) totalling 42.195km. Bowerman Track Club have withdrawn due to "coronavirus contact" but that serves to make the race look more competitive. Even without BTC there's a lot of quality runners taking part.

Very disappointing. The stream is awful ! All sorts of technical issues.

          • Live streams for Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th October:

With the European & US road racing calendar being decimated Japan is hosting the majority of this weekend's live streaming events.

            Friday to Sunday
            • Japanese U20 Championships & National High School Meet (Hiroshima, JPN)
            Saturday
            • Michitaka Kinami Memorial Meet (Osaka, JPN) - WA Continental Tour Bronze meeting; Sprints, hurdles, field & 800m races; Just a domestic affair but many of Japan's best are competing so it looks like a quality meeting
            • Dudinska 50 (Dudince, SVK) - European Race Walking Permit meeting; The men's 50km field is small but decent; I think there's also 20km races on the programme (there usually is)
            • Milla Urbana de Valladolid - Premio Isaac Viciosa (Valladolid, ESP) - STREAM DIDN'T MATERIALISE; Road miles for the elite and, in a break with tradition, road 1000m races for the other categories; Elite races at end of programme; The Men's race looks decent headlined by Fernando Carro & Nassim Hassaous (3.36.9 PB)
            Sunday
            • Kitakyushu Carnival (Kitakyushu, JPN) - Japan GP Series; Usually this is a much more extensive 2-day meeting but this year its just 200m races & field events
            • Morino Miyako Ekiden (Sendai, JPN) - AKA the All Japan University Women's Ekiden Championship; 25 teams contesting over 6 legs totalling 38.1km

Next major post on Friday 30th or Saturday 31st.

                    • Denka Athletics Challenge Cup (Niigata, JPN) - WA Continental Tour Bronze meeting; Japan-based athletes only this year; The highlight looks like the last event on the programme, the Women's 5000 with Nozomi Tanaka, Hellen Ekarare Lobun & a couple of other decent Kenyans

I'm not sure yet if there's any streaming action this coming weekend (Sunday specifically). If not, the next major post will be on Friday 13th November.

Yep, it's going to be slim pickings for the rest of the year.

Outside of Japan road racing & 'pro' XC has been pretty much wiped out for this year at least. However, on 6th December the super-elite half & full marathon in Valencia is still scheduled.

Let's hope though that Europe is in a position to have a good indoor season come January/February.

                    • Live stream for Sunday 8th November:
                      • Istanbul Marathon (TUR) - WA Gold Label; Decent international fields for this, including Edwin Soi making his marathon debut; Definitely on Turkish TV but also the possibility of an English commentary stream on YouTube
                      Links & details at https://www.dropbox.com/s/qobfzvard2...11-08.odt?dl=0

The Bangsaen42 Marathon in Thailand (a WA Bronze label race) is also this weekend but is limited to Thai runners only. WA label road races in China have also started up again recently but, similarly, seem to be restricted to domestic athletes for the moment.

Next major post on Friday for what promises to be a relatively busy weekend, including elite & college cross country at the XC Town USA Meet of Champions and currently at least 2 Ekidens.

                        • Live streams for Saturday 14th to Sunday 15th November:

                          Saturday
                          • XC Town USA Meet of Champions (Terre Haute, IN, USA) - given the event title the depth of the line-ups is a bit disappointing here with the biggest names being Paul Chelimo, Mason Ferlic, Amanda Eccleston & Amy-Eloise Neale (now married?). There's also a few very good collegians in each race such as Kyle Mau & Ericka Vanderlende
                          Sunday
                          • Chubu Region Corporate Men's Ekiden (Tahara City, JPN) - Qualifying race for the National Corporate Ekiden Championship in the first 2 or 3 days of January; Looks like a quality entry list with a lot of 28-low/mid guys and several sub-28 Kenyans including Bedan Karoki
                          • Kansai Region Corporate Men's Ekiden (Tanabe, JPN) - Qualifying race for the National Corporate Ekiden Championship in the first 2 or 3 days of January; I haven't looked into the entrants here but given the depth of distance running in Japan I think the quality won't be too shabby

Next major post on Friday or Saturday next week. It might be a sparse weekend but will, at present, include TV streaming of the Queen's Ekiden, aka the All Japan Women's Corporate Ekiden Championship.
