6556 safely qualifies her for Budapest, and second place behind a rising star in Hall is a solid result, with room for improvement 8n some events.

She did much better than I anticipated, especially after the terrible hurdles.

6700 and fighting for bronze in Budapest seems a reasonable target.

IanHodge8 tweets 'Second for@JohnsonThompson in Gotzis with 6556 pts.. she has scored 6813 there before but this may well be more satisfying.. A wonderful return to world class for the 2019 world champ'

Can she go quicker in the 100h, yes. Can she find 3 more cm in HJ, yes. Can she long jump further than today, fingers crossed, no drama. Can she maintain her SP/JV at the levels achieved this weekend, I think her team are working very hard towards that. Is there a very low 23 in the 200, hmm... Could she find a 2.09 in the 800 if a medal demanded this with eyeballs out ... is there 200 extra points to be had to keep Thiam and Hall looking over their shoulder... only Budapest will tell us... hang on tight ...

I would imagine Hall and Thiam will be eyeing each other, 7000 points and overtaking Kluft on the all time list. KJT can find 200 more points but that's still going to be 200-300 points behind Hall and Thiam.

As well as her own performances, her focus will be on Sulek, a below par weekend by her standards but has more to give in top form and Vetter if she can get back to her best form.

Ding, Ding all aboard the KJT roller coaster ... Yes, would have liked a better time for the 100h but now, please, PLEASE, no drama in the HJ !

HJ was far from drama-free and would have been happier with a clearance at 1.89...but onto SP

13.64 SP, 'a decent effort', leaves her 101 pts behind leader Hall? I hope she can find a good 200 ...

23.48 makes KJT the fastest across the 3 heats of 200. She'd want quicker but ends Day 1 with 3905 putting her second [93 behind Hall]. Well done.

Nothing spectacular but no disasters ...second overnight and although there are a number of others close who will be dangerous on day two , if she can jump and throw up to her recent efforts tomorrow the podium beckons...

I’m not too concerned about Kat’s throws at the moment, she’s got a good thing going in the javelin in the last two seasons

Agreed - we’ll be heart in mouth for the LJ, though! LJ and TJ comps today struggling, suggests the runway may take some getting used to

Hope the TJ final improves on the qual round.

The BBC says that KJT has "put herself in contention for gold". I guess they haven't seen Anna Hall run 800m ...

Hall is clearly not in great shape here, which is a shame, as if KJT had matched her season’s bests, she might have been able to put real pressure on Hall to overcommit in the 800m. As it is, I suspect Hall will win by 150-200 points

Worth noting that Jade O'Dowda, based on following marks 13.47 [100h legal PB & SB], 1.86 [PB&SB], 13.44 [PB, SB13.40], 24.44[200 PB] would score 3805. This would place her 7th [-95 points from podium]

Conditions here are clearly not great, so as frustrating as it is not to see her here, I’m not sure she’d be achieving those marks, in all honesty

Understand that jjimbojames, and you are probably right, but felt it needed to be 'put on record' ...

KJT's 6.54 to Hall's 6.19 ... I am holding on tight to the ride with JV to come... all that has happened to blight KJT in the past [injuries, niggles, no jumps] befalls the opposition...

Yep….now is the time for KJT to throw a jav PB, and then actually run an all-out 800m for the first time in years. Beating Hall over 200m is ominous

Honestly, I am trying to hold it together, I was actually getting the LJ results from 'Felix' on the forum [BBC delayed] I dont think I can put myself through that in the JV...

I’m also thinking back to the LIA and KJT running a 52.x relay leg…clearly prep to get her 800m time back and be ready to actually run the thing, rather than finish!

I don’t want to jinx it but after all the misfortune in her career there is no athlete that deserves a bit of luck to go her way than KJT.
