So what's a "par" points difference on the javelin for the pair of them? 250-270? Kat is 216 ahead at the moment....

The PB difference is more like 320.
But Nafi is not supposed to be in PB shape in the Jav at the moment.
It might come down to her deciding whether to sacrifice the shoulder for a gold today - risking no gold next year - or backing off a bit with next year in mind.

Anyway, what a titanic struggle. I am so loving this.

Everything crosses we don't have a Kelly S moment. I predict 44m for Kat and 51m for Thiam.

I also think if Thiam isn't feeling it , she will get a throw in and the protect her body for Tokyo.

Watching this BBC piece on Christie. He's quite paranoid: the Americans wouldn't allow him to win in Atlanta, etc. Also very evasive about his Nandrolone positive.

Women's 4x1 heats look very lopsided.

Heat 1: USA, Australia, Kazakhstan, Denmark, Switzerland, France, Trindidad & Tobago & Netherlands (without Schippers?).

Heat 2: Germany, GB, Jamaica, China, Nigeria, Brazil, Italy & Ghana.

I expect GB to go with Asha P, Lansiquot, Nelson & Neita.

42m from Kat in R1. Solid base to build from; Just what she needed.

PBs: Vetter 58m, Oosterwegel 54m & Broersen 54m... All heptathletes, yet the Dutch have no world class Javelin throwers? Odd.

I think I've hardly ever seen a notable javelin specialist from the Netherlands, male or female, senior or age-group!

Their national records are 80.70 and 60.92 so useful but not what I would call truly world-class.

I was trying to think myself and had the same trouble. Clearly no lack of coaches capable of training Javelin Throwers over there so perhaps it's cultural; No interest?

That didnt look good for Nafi. She is a champion so I am not writing her off yet, but she does not look capable of going near her PB based on that. Shame.

Am I crazy for seeing a 14.50m & 48m thrower in KJT? There is so much scope left...

KJT, if your going to break the British record, why not score 7000 points while your there.

If KJT runs 2.08 her final score would be 6966, presuming she does not improve her javelin in the third round

A better 2nd round throw from Thiam just over 48m, but that is not nearly enough for her. She needs to go substantially over 50m (realistically she needs to get close to her monster PB throw) to really get herself back into contention.
